Hi,
tensile strength of the steel we only use is far stronger than the original bolts , check out custom 630 s/steel or as its more commonly known 17-4ph on the web. Its the carlsberg of the stainless world !! :)

Another quote from -

The price will be £6.50 each plus vat irrespective of numbers.

So basically the current guy does them for around £80 ( never ever let them use an airgun ...always a hand driven wheelbrace!!!!)...the others are double plus the price; if you're going to keep car fro more than two years, go down the S/S route.

P

Having trawled through posts on the potential safety issue of using non standard stainless steel bolts I have decided to go down the re-chroming route. Like someone posted how many chromed wheel bolt accidents have been posted on the forum. Can you tell me if the forum bolts are at the place you are recommending and maybe post their phone number/contact details so I can order them. I can't imagine leaving my new pride and joy on axle stands for a while waiting for my own bolts to come back from the chromers!
Thanks
Phil

Hi Phil, It's just David and he's always busy as h£ll, so it may take him a couple f days to get back to you. I have a set of quarter bumpers with him at the moment and he's on something like a 10 week turnaround.

Ask for David, mention the forum, they have a set there already....the price has gone up, think they are looking for £80 for set of 20...ensure they don't chrome down shaft of bolts and get chrome into thread

Forgive me for being a bit thick: are these the fellows that'll do a set for £80...? Picked up 20 from McGrath's today and they look like **** - £80 to get them sorted sounds pretty good to me. What's the drill? Fedex them over there after an exchange of emails?

Best make email/phone contact first, then ask him to chrome the ones hes got there, you pay him to do it, he sends you bolts when done, you then send him your old ones in return

Hmmmm. But these are special magic bolts, different from the norm (or so I'm told), for putting Assetto Corsa wheels on o_O

Once I've got my biannual evisceration by HM Revenue & Customs out of the way I'll give them a tickle and see what they say :D

Hi P,

Quarter bumpers for an Exxy (not mine as it happens) - £200. Been quoted double that elsewhere. That's why David is always busy.

Cheers, wonder if he knows someone who will let him stick a bumper in a just turned off furnace to cool over weekend??!! Apparently it needs a quite a unique annealing process to take place before they can be worked on to straighten then prepare to re-chrome

Check them, JM - AC wheels are the same as 4200 15 spoke (sometimes in a different colour). The bolts for these wheels are the same as a 4200 IIRC so you may still need a set of 3200 bolts for the rear wheels.

Yeah: I purchased a set of old 3200 bolts today. So I have 4200s on my 4200 and 3200s in an old grease bucket. Either way, I should be sorted :D

Just need to get the 3200s looking nice and shiny... After my initial idea to 'just stick something manky on for winter', I can't quite bring myself to do it :D

I spent a couple of hours with some Solvol Autosol and a rag for my bolts yesterday. They came up pretty well but now the wheels looks terrible! Time to buy some new axle stands and get them off to Lepsons I think!

Well I have tried David Mcfie the Chromer enquiries@classicsandchrome.co.uk (01455 637921) who apparently has the forum wheel bolts by phone and email once/twice a week for more than a month now I cannot get him to reply to me. Does anyone have any other ideas on who to try. Problem is I don't have a spare set so car would have to be off the road while my set was being done.

Hill engineering do a new set for £280, they're great quality and fully tested etc.
