Finally Bought a Maserati!

After a year or so of browsing and test driving different Maseratis, I finally bought a 64 plate ghibli with 33000 miles. Petrol of course.

After 2 days of driving it I have to say It’s an amazing car for unbelievable value.

I spoke to Matt from sports italia about some concerns and he put me at ease, mainly the strut mount issues. When I looked through the paperwork I actually found that main dealer had installed some reinforcement. The original owner kept it with MD until it was sold early this year.

Black interior with the wood trim, extended leather, paddles, 6 pot brakes and a fair few other options. It has the wood trim that I didn’t really like in pictures but actually in person it’s really nice and suits the car IMO. I have the 19’ proteo wheels and no skyhook and the car rides perfectly for my preference.

I’d genuinely say to anyone umming and arring about getting one, get in one and drive it. You’ll soon be smitten.

Was also wondering if anyone could recommend and OBD reader for reading the due maintenance, codes and resetting service light?

Well done taking the plunge and welcome to the fold. Perhaps see you at a meet when the good weather returns.
How about posting some pictures of the car interior? We particularly need to see the wood trim you like so much. Rather partial to a bit of well polished timber inside a car myself.

Congratulations sounds like you made the first good step, research first. As above we need photos

Quick update, RE alignment and tracking. I noticed it was pulling to the left slightly on the 4hr drive home.
Took it to the lads at elite wheels and tyres in Reading and they did all the alignment for me. Their rates are very reasonable and I can’t believe how much more ‘planted’ the car feels. They book you for 2 hours and charge £180. They even showed me the underside of the car and pointed out corroded rear toe adjusters, it was pretty cool to have everything explained, they also point out Ghiblis have ‘caster’ adjustment but he kind of lost me at that point.

I remember when researching before buying a Maserati that getting alignment done can be annoying, so take what you will from this

Nice one. I liked mine a lot, also a 64 plate petrol one.

Rumour has it (long story) that you can really open up the sound with a x-pipe and centre resonator delete. You can also remap it to S spec easily as the car is the same mechanically.

Have fun!

That's good to know. I think I need to get this done. Reading is a possibility, unless someone has a recommendation in the Swindon-Gloucester-Bristol triangle.

From a fellow Reading'ite - Welcome! Looking forward to seeing you rocking your car around town!
Eb
Definitely. What are you driving? I’ll keep an eye out for you!
Probably couldn’t live in a worse town for driving, our roads are sinful.

I’d definitely be open to the pipe and tune, I just don’t like hacking out a resonator and welding some pipe in, never looks good underneath. I also don’t like the cost of a fully fabricated part. Did you go down the tuning and resonator delete route?

I may have (long story)....or maybe it was the previous owner, your honour....

Centre resonator delete and replace with an X-pipe which you can do either off-the-shelf from people like RemusUK, or custom with a good exhaust shop. Mapping comes in two flavours....1) map to S spec 410bhp which involves opening the ECU or 2) mapping with a plug-in unit that can be removed and returned to stock on demand.

The standard petrol Ghibli is mechanically identical to the S so there is no issue handling the extra power. The S was effectively a map, and some extras like upgraded lights, thrown in to justify the additional cost.
