I’m actually very pleased with his findings. Every now and then a new car pops up which tempts me. Probably only twice a decade or so. The Roma was one such, but after watching Harry’s review, it’s just not perfect enough. The same weekend, I noticed how impossible it will be to open the doors of the MC20 in a garage. I’ll stick with my Ghibli. Dodged two bullets. Phew.

I was there that day, and drove the same car as Harry. He in the morning, me in the afternoon. The track was very greasy and he certainly did better than me in controlling the wheel spin. His conclusion of it being a bit like a Maserati GranTurismo but with too much power rings a bell with me. And I could do without much of the tech. But it is a gorgeous and glorious car.

What it needs is the turbos removing, an exhaust with less filtering, all the touch screen tech, bings and bongs removed, replaced by buttons, dials and toggle switches. A steering wheel that’s just a steering wheel, and the option of an open gate manual box.

Apart from that it’s top notch.

(And now I’m just going to get back in my delorean and head back to 1997:))

This is interesting (the pic) didn’t Harry say no shields on the Roma as it’s not aimed at Cheshire. Maybe different in US

Yes it was black. Loved it. Like Harry though thought over techy inside. Even door handle was on a solenoid.

It was mighty fast though. Felt a lot quicker than the Cali T

He corrected that on Twitter - you can spec them on the configurator.

Yep, Harry corrected it in the dialogue box on his YouTube channel. His review was - as ever - brilliant. Mind quite why anyone wants the shields is beyond me. A mate of mine has them on his 488 and they look like they were painted after lunch...well that's as polite as I can make it.

Did anyone notice at the end of the review that Harry said it was similar to the GranTurismo with a 'do you remember it?' as if he was talking about something from before the war.

Not that I’m in the position but I keep returning to a conundrum - a new Roma for £200k+ with options, or a Ferrari 599 HGTE/612 Scaglietti OTO for around half the price. Not quite like with like - the Roma is likely to be financed more, and you get a warranty - but it’s not as if the older cars are slow, they have naturally aspirated V12s and are modern enough to have the tech you need rather than superfluous stuff. The Roma is prettier, but both the 599 and 612 have a similar elegance to them (compared to the brutal designs at Ferrari over the past ten years). It’s a tricky one, as I really love the Roma’s design, but the Nat/asp V12 is such a thing...

I thought the shields were supposed to indicate a Scuderia Ferrari car?50D5183A-D9B5-4AB7-8D1A-52311B91648C.jpeg

When I was looking for my cali t I don't think I saw a single Ferrari for sale (any model) which didn't have them on

They are just another demonstration of the balls out spec comparison which modern Ferrari owners drone on about and are told they need for resale. Shields and carbon fibre glovebox handles et al.

Interesting, where can I get carbon glovebox handles? I have carbon exterior handles. ;)
