Seems to be connected to both EGR valves should I be hearing it is it normal
n Its theere for a reason. However; as you have described it, Im not sure you should hear at switch off post ignition-off.
Normally, it runs at start up & that's because the conditions for its purpose are met when the cats are cold....

Thanks for the quick replies all. Can just here it winding down when you stop the engine . I’ve pulled the unit out now just to check the bearings but couldn’t remember hearing it before.

It is the secondary air pump. Are you sure thats what your hearing on turning the engine off as the rad fans can run on after shut down especially in the current heat.

Secondary air pump will run for 30 seconds to 1 minute on start up to put air into the system to heat the cats up quicker.

Are you sure it’s actually running from being powered by electricity and not turning from exhaust gas.

If the valves fail they let exhaust into the pump and it corrodes the bearings. Never actually heard anyone say they can hear it turning though.

Hi, when switch ignition off you can hear the fan turning for a couple of seconds after engine has stopped, will check if it’s exhaust gasses turning it but I would of expected the fan and filter to be full of soot but didn’t see any

If the engine is not running its not going to be that.
If there’s a relay for it check it hasn’t seized.

while you’ve got it off it is worth checking the valves close.

I think you’ve got it as just disconnected the power to the fan and it still does it. Will delve deeper

My apologies everybody I’ve been sending you all down the wrong path, could of sworn the sound was coming from that fan but it is the alternator winding down. I’m guessing the manifold has to come off

Think is might be the alternator clutch pulley.
