Extra BHP at what cost

So Loz, what do you recon we will be getting from the GS then. Its 400bhp stock, and we have the Larini free flowing exhaust and de cat, so that must count for 20hp so plus the 30hp from the remap, we should be pushing out more horses than a standard GTS. Now on another level, this makes me look at the the GT 4.2 again. Spend 2.5k on an exhaust and remap and you have a car that will technically be faster than its bigger brother.

What do you recon?

My experience Matt is that you generally can't add the increased BHP figures together for each modification to achieve an accurate figure. The increases quoted are usually for that single modification on a standard car. With other mods the waters get muddied a bit. The only real way of discovering the improvement of each modification is to dyno before and after each one. From what I've read it appears that DMS will do this for you as a matter of course to demonstrate the difference. If I was going down the Larini + FD + whatever route I'd be tempted to spend a few quid at a friendly dyno to get a before and after reading to see what my money was buying me. The other consideration is the 'seat of pants' factor which is all about how a car feels to drive, something difficult to measure.

Sound advice Mark and has been my train of thought , having no tricks other than the Larini im starting from scratch as it were, if and when i go for a dms remap depends on getting atleast one more testimonial , and then i will add the DBW etc

No problem Shak , i'll presume to start a list of interested parties wholey dependant on price and satisfactory testimonials, what i'll be proposing is an all day open day at their premises whereby 5/6 cars can be catered for on the day , all with rolling road tests before and after as proof along with print outs

Loz
Matt
Emptee
Shak

Any other ineterested parties please feel free to add your name to the list in the usual way

Wouldn't mind a bit more clarification on this particular point as it could well happen during a dealer service, etc.

"The only potential problem is if you go to a Maserati Dealer who wipes clean the ECU programmes and then resets. DMS will sort you out if that happens."

Sort it out how exactly?

Having read their website Miles , they keep a record of your existing ecu data and the re-mapped data , and can re-flash it , they also give you a copy on disc i think of the before and after , any re-flash is free and part of the guarantee thats how i understand it , and i will make sure all is clarified as we begin to take things further

Loz, that sounds like a trip to DMS or am I missing something?

Reckon your probably right Miles , unless the CD data means that you can get it done locally re-tuner and they cover the cost not sure , but definately one to clarify

Saying that i have yet to hear of a single massers main ecu being reset by a dealer , certainly not in my 3 1/2 years on the forums

Loz, another question to add if possible (sorry!). Will the mod be detectable by a dealer and could it affect the warranty? I have a 2 year extended warranty so just wanted to check this.

Thanks

This thread has made me interested in looking at tuning for the 3200 too. As I understand it, reading through posts on other forums about remapping the ecu on a 3200, it tends to bugger the car - is this right? Can anyone tell me why? V_bird talks about having had it done a few years back, but i can't find any recent threads of anyone having had it done...
I know leo nardo and modena performance in germany both offer ecu tuning as part of their increased bhp package - but at vast sums of money - I was also approached by a chap at the Fastlane car show earlier this year, here in Corbridge, who said he could remap the ecu in my 3200 to give an increase in bhp, but I'm not sure I want to be his guinea pig! Anyone have any knowledge on this?

Leo Nardo version as tested by EVO in Nov 2001.

3200 up-rated from 370 hp to 450hp by using TUV approved tuning co Dimex. Up graded intercooling, freeflow inlet manifolds, sports exhaust, sports air filter, upraded dampers and stiffer springs. Price for the above...£14,800 inc vat.

Old web site sales@caracalla.co.uk or Simon Jordan on 0870 9090360...no idea if they are still running.

Thats Cortese Safrane in Bath...Simon was Caracalla before Cortese....They talked of selling this kit which was actually Leo Nardo as Dimex is one of the importers but they never did in the end..You can still get it through German Company Dimex.... http://www.dimex-group.com/

I have an old copy of Auto Italia with the road test of Simons 3200 with the upgrades..When I bought my 3200 we had a long chat about it but for me it was just too many pennies. Think they tested it against an Aston Martin....Didnt' EVO put it up against a 3200 AC.

...and before Caracalla, it was Specialist Cars Direct, bought an Alfa GTV from him in 99.

Reading this with interest, as I'm always partial to a few more horses....

I have the FD ECM (and DBW for that matter) plus the Larani decat.... engines got 41K on the clock, so in theory if any 4.2 should have the 450HP you get by adding Larini / FD claims together, I suppose it should be moi....?

now, if you all pay me a fiver, I'll go get it dyno'd ;)
