Yes, Benny, pretty meaningless It's an internet meme as well, mostly (by me, at least) used for humour.

The 'It's just a car' thing is a hangover from on of my old usenet forums where it was a standard phrase if something 'bad' had happened. Someone bins their bike: 'It's just a Fazer'. Sounds cruel, but it was understood in that context.

You may be amazed at how many words we use actually are meaningless, when you study semantics. There's whole *swathes* of 'good morning' and 'how are you' which are basically designed to convey the meaning 'I'm alive, are you'

Not sure the ease of replacement but the part number from Eurospares is 980000961 and should read Driver Side Outer Temperature sensor at 9.83GBP I think??

Gary yes it will be the sensor- when I had the car it started to misread years ago but I never quite got around to changing it- To get at you have to strip the door down a couple of hours work I was told...

Hi ratbag and thanks for the added info! I'm trying to tie the couple of little jobs (new discs, new pads, new handbrake, new stainless steel brake lines all round, temperature sensor replacement) into the annual 10,000kms service which will be due in about 4-6 weeks so my Indie mate can work his magic on her to keep her in tip top condition.

Not sure what effect the temperature sensor has given I only ever use a manual setting for the air con, i.e. never the auto, but it's chucked an 'E' twice in the past few months (instantly settles back to normal though mind you) so I'm wondering if the 2 are linked. I guess we shall see...

Catman - given I am a akin to Frank Spencer with anything DIY I shall not be attempting such a thing!!!! It'll be down to my Indie to do it all

It's been ordered (7-10 days) and then postage out here to Oz so it's a few weeks away from being done yet but on the cards for sure!
