Engine bay cleaning

My engine looks pretty clean (4200) but I want to give it a wee spring clean

what should I use on the plastics coverings and also on the red of the engine??? I will just use normal paint cleaners/polish on the body work within the engine bay, but would love some tips to ensure the power plant continues to have that 'wow' effect when people ask to see it!

Not planning to spend ages on it so some simple 'quick wipe' techniques would be great!

Yep, second what Andy says. I use a different brand, but same thing really.

Dont be tempted to use a jet wash on it, ok, it brings it up nice, but you generally suffer for weeks with water ingress and its very easy to break clips and things from the pressure, Gunk is very good, but use it sparingly.

...or butter, or olive oil, infact anything greasy really. (Ok, maybe the butter is a bit far fetched)

I take it you are still talking cars........Don't really want to know what you get up to behind closed doors Matt.

Seems im the only one then that uses a silicone spray on all the electrics first then autoglym engine bay cleaner , worked in with a 1" paint brush and hosed of lightly with the jet wash and engine running, when all is dry i use a silicone spray on all the electrics again and on all the rubber/plastics works a treat and lasts for ages

Hi Chaps i use
Wurth brake cleaner spray ( VERY FLAMABLE ) DONT START MOTOR FOR 20 MINS bonnet up
BUT it melts all grime as it evaporates with the spray an is ok on plastic
Just try it on a bit of old grimy stuff lawn mower ish ?? no joke it works well
Then apply your KY

Chris, to be fair, all Auotglym products are excellent, you cant go far wrong. The only one I have never got on with it their leather creme, on dark leather, it leaves a white residue, and very difficult to finish.

The Gliptone is the one I use, its by far the best I have found to date.
