Oil tank full and enough wood for the wood burner to last through the winter, however am seriously thinking of adding solar panels to the new garage roof as we still have reasonable subsidy and sell back rates from the government

3 Billion to rebuild the Centrica site is nothing compared to what the Government have spaffed lining their pockets this last couple of years with Bat Flu.

It's part of the big plan to get us out of our old cars and into an electric one. And cover the country in solar panels.

All - can you all please just take care that this thread doesn’t become some bullsh!t bucket for dumping unsubstantiated crarp and alarmist nonsense dredged from a lonely corner of the web or a fuckw!t from the pub? We had enough of that with COVID and it just annoyed people.

The government are blaming the public for panic buying fuel, which I'm sure people are. But what the government aren't saying is that people are probably panicking because there is so little confidence in the government. Very few people trust them, which is exactly what happens to people who tell lies.

People still think the sun shines from the Boris Hiney...
..but I believe their is some distrust. And real fear too ( of the unknown..better the devil you know sort of distrust) a form of "trusting the abuser" ..
The Tory spin machine is transparent if only it is scrutinised at any level..
This country faces real challenges. From HGV drivers to food rotting, unharvested in fields to the imminent slaughter of thousands of farmed meat products (pigs) because there are too few butchers...
Brexit aint got nothing to do with it...apparently !

That article I posted came up on several news feeds and I'm sure we have members on here who live in Chelsea and have paid £2.68 a litre.

There are 3 issues at play:

  1. Rising energy prices in geographical Europe (incl. UK)
  2. Brexit
  3. The government‘s handling of the two above
Continental Europe can handle the energy issue, in the UK the extra Brexit issues have made it a lot more difficult, and this, combined with the government not being honest about the challenges and the frankly very poor reaction to issues 1 & 2 have led to the current situation. We can throw in the pandemic and the mind bogglingly complicated travel restrictions to the rest of the world (introduced by same government) and there we are (or should I say there you are…).

Your dear Boris seems to think it’s just a question of stiff upper lip, pull yourself together and “please donnez moi un break” (oh I got that last one wrong, that’s what he said to Macron).

BTW Do you know the popular french translation (between men) for "Donne moi un break" is "Lâche moi la grappe" - which is much more sensible :)

My local garage has a £30 limit. Managed to get to £45 before they noticed and shut me off. £30 isn’t even 1/4 of a tank at current prices.

As I’ve said before, to prevent shortages make it a £30 minimum spend and ban containers.

Did the electricity procurement for a school yesterday. And the 'best' prices we got were absolutely horrendous!
29p kWh as a day rate for a Half Hourly Meter on a one year contract.
It was almost 22p for a 3 year contract!

All this tells me is that there are going to be some very tough times for energy users over the next few years.

When I fixed my domestic one 6 weeks ago I got what I thought was a bit rough at 18p But for commercial prices to be that high, and the market indicators are showing further rises coming, mean that sub 20p electricity prices are a thing of the past! :(

Yes, panic buying turned a minor localised disruption into a brief national crisis.

And, yes, many people don't trust this current government.

But I don't think anybody who was panic buying was thinking, 'the government is saying don't panic, but I don't trust Boris - if only Blair or Eden or the Duke of Wellington were still in charge, or if only Paxman, or Mother Theresa, or my mummy was in charge, then I would stay home'.

I cannot imagine a circumstance where any UK government (of any kind at all) would be sufficiently trusted that when they said 'don't panic' people would go 'ok then'.
