As I underatand it BMW did not do well with the E34 M5 and so didn't do an E39.......I think they got it wrong as it would have sold...

The two British ones come back as a 528 and s 540....are they perhaps just good replicas? Agree with Dem, the one in the greeny colour is a gem.

e34 or e39??

E39.

As Maf has pointed out, a few converted cars exist, they look brilliant, not sure on costs but would love an E39 M5 estate in Imola Red.

Shame about the E60 estate, just over 19k E60 M5's were made and only a smidge over 1000 were estates, a very rare car.

Lewis, BMW never made a M5 convertible - you'll tire of it in hours!

You're dead on - that is always the way! I have spent 10years and £50-60k restoring my Esprit and it's being driven about now prior to me getting it back. Not sure I want it or will drive it though :(

I was driving on the German highway with 200km/h on my 4200, when my left mirror was filled for one second with an E60 like this... It was stunning how she could accelerate!

IIRC, there was something like 1250 E61 M5's made, and I've got in my head that something like 222 came to the UK. There's actualy one a few doors up from me and then another on the next street, both in Carbon Black. They look great.

As for the Imola Red E39 Adam, thats a bold choice. My Bro desperately wanted an IR E60 and actually went to see one at the main agent in Bedford, but it wasnt well prep'd and the salesman wouldnt have it (dirty, chipped bonnet, scratch on the wing, scuffed wheels). My Bro was gutted as they're a rare beast in IR.

Funny, he/she probably did that knowing you'd appreciate it! They certainly do fly. Not literally. (exluding the one on the previous page, by the looks of it! :))

You might know that the specific model has two engine management modes: 400 hp and 507 hp... I wanted to open my window and scream to him to turn it to the mode with 400 hp...Maybe then i would be competitive!

Yes, all cars pictured are 'home brews'. Only 1 E39 M5 Touring was ever made by BMW - the silver one Adam posted first.

Whats the point of driving at 400bhp?? You could have 507bhp??

economy only, as on 400hp mode, the engine works with two cylinders less! I can think of another answer though:The husband would be feel more comfortable, thinking that his wife drives a car with 400, rather than 507 hp!

The husbanc wife thing is a very good point.....What you need to one that could go down to 120 bhp...

More to the point, how many settings is there for the diff? 3, how many settings for the gearbox ferosity? 5 and i think the gearbox itself has a choice of settings, some rather pointless stuff on this car but that engine certainly makes up for it. In America the E60 was available as a manual.

Must say the different gear box settings on the CSL made sense as the angry setting was great on track but you would want it for normal driving......
