Hi.
I want to fix a display device somewhere in the centre of the console to permanently display OBD data. I was thinking about a better iPhone app, I used "car scanner" wi-fi app for iPhone but the free version is a bit rubbish. Have others done this? if so, which OBD app, and what tablet? Apple or Android? Also I haven't found a good enough mount for a device for my 4200. Vent mounts don't work as the grille spacing is too small.

i have used dash command and its not bad for either entertaining displays which you customise and also works for clearing codes and logging engine sensors for diagnostics. It has some screens for track days and all that, which i have not sued really. It works on apple or android i think. I dont run it unless i am trying to solve a problem as i am not sure the old 3200 CAN bus can cope with constant polling (although it does seem to work)

I've got the wired ultra gauge on the Maser, no problems.
I have also recently bought a scantool Bluetooth OBD MX to use in my BMW linked to a permanently mounted 'old' android smartphone just for using the 'TORQUE' app. I've then a display of water temp, oil temp, and boost pressure that is lacking on the normal instrument binnacle.
This Bluetooth OBD adapter should also work in the same way if used in my Maser. The scantool OBD MX is expensive, but can be left connected and powers down correctly so not to drain the battery. It also comes with a nice app too for diagnostic purposes.

Here's the videos. First one is how I trimmed down the size of the stereo to fit in the dash. Second video is the install.

The 3200 OBD is slow. You can poll 2 or 3 parameters only and probably not 1 sample per second
