for 4200's i'd imagine the DL16 pin plug can be used for the X431 and then access FIAT also, they have generic system accessabilty for magnetti marrelli, (engine) / abs / transmission / body etc. the X431 asks you to access using a 3 - pin Fiat Connector, or the DL16 universal SMART connector. out of a big list of systems one always accesses the ecu. all the Italians pretty much use the same electrical systems, same for Alpha Romeo.

Thanks Steve, that's enough good news for me to look at purchasing one. It looks like LAUNCH have a presence here in Australia.
Can you tell me what systems you are able to read/reset on your 2000 model?

I see them advertised for around US$750 which makes them very appealing for the home garage.

i can access engine systems by connecting the 3- pin plug located adjacent to the throttle pedal behind the carpet, the ABS 3 - pin connector is located adjacent to the PAS fluid reservoir i can access both of these. i need to locate the transmission connector ( mines an automatic transmission) its an Australian auto box so im not sure of the accessibility of launch with that... the other systems must have 3 pin connectors so i need to check the location of those too. i have manuals so i'll look it up. airbags must be accessible too. engine is the main one im concerned about. i can access live data as well on engine. ie sensor parameters and what the ecu is reading when the vehicle is running.

**** fault codes are all readable and clearable

I have the same ODBII reader from e-bay and i keep it in the car. I have a 2001 GTA so it has a fully integrated internal system and an ODBII port.I also have a software based ODBII system which also works on the car.

The e-bay unit will read all the errors the car throws up and can clear engine, gearbox and suspension errors as i have manged this already.
It gives the fault code as a number with no explanation, you get a book with the standard code definitions (codes 0-1000)

It will also clear error codes no problem. i have used it regularly to get through problems usually allowing me to get the car to go again while on the road after the CEL light has come on, limp home is pretty depressing!!! I keep a note book in the car and write down any codes thrown up before clearing them so i have a log of all problems.

Hope this helps

Can anyone name their experience with OBD for a 4200? Which one covers most failures for example, and which runs a power test, etc etc.
I followed the link from Matt, but auction was closed.
Thanks

Are there any reasonably priced code readers/resetters that work with the gransport? Thanks Geoff

Just to give some help, i own the X431 professional , i own a repair Garage here in the UK and i Own a year 2000 3200, PRE OBD spec. the X431 is badged as LAUNCH over here in UK. for earlier 3200's with the 3 pin FIAT connectors, you can go in under FIAT on the scan tool and access the systems that way, the menus pull up Magnetti Marrelli so you can enter through that. the codes usually come up with a slight italian overtone with the text but its pretty understandable.
hi, have tried using the launc x431 on the 3 pin on my 3200gt and tried various models with magneti marelli ecu but no luck
communicating, any advice on how you did this would be appreciated. alan

I came across this clip
on Youtube for the Diagun X431 and the clip shows the device used to read and then clear fault codes on a 3200GT. Anyone heard of these, or has one or can offer any insight as to their merits given the $1500 price tag?

Has there been any further progress on a scantool for the 3200's? I did follow a thread on MF where a member was developing a basic code reader. As an extension to this is there a list of fault codes and the fault to which it refers available anywhere?

Regards,

Neil
