It's only going to be used by me on a weekend, my daily driver is a Renault Trafic ( don't laugh ) I owned a M3 SMG a few years back and liked the SMG box even though others hated it, so I'm sure I'd get along fine with the MC shift.Having said that I've spoken to the Edinburgh dealer this afternoon and he won't budge on the price, even though he knows it's £500 more expensive and a year older than the other car.If I was keeping it for years and years then I'd probably go for the car in Edinburgh, but as I'll probably only keep it for a year or 18 months it would seem wiser to go for the newer car.I'm assuming that a 2010 auto is going to be worth £3/4k more than 2009 MC as a trade in over the next year or two?

Hey loft dont diss the Traffic (unite the workers ), ive got a Vauxhall viraro and Nissan primastar ( soon to be completed ) great drivers had a around 5 in the last few years great vans , have you thought about Matts car , think he's just put it up forsale, im sure we can get Dicky to sort a finance package/warranty if needed

Yes Matts car is a really nice example and in pristine condition, guaranteed to be well cared for regardless of cost, you can't say that about all cars out there..??

No offence intended lol, I owned a Renault Master for 7 years prior to the Trafic and they've come a long way since then, much nicer drive, better economy, and more gadgets . I only bought it last month, it's the sport model so came with metallic black paint, integrated sat nav, aircon and bluetooth which can even stream music from my phone, the tech is way better than my R8.Anyway enough about vans, I have considered Matts car, and I'm sure it will be immaculate, but the dealers car is extremely tempting.

I placed a deposit on the 2010 auto today . I got messed around on the Edinburgh car so that made my mind up.Its a 500 mile round trip for me, I can't go next weekend so it's going to be a long 2 weeks before pickup, can't wait.

I agree with Frank.

Well done, Lofty. The challenge you have now is being able to sleep and concentrate on anything else until you pick it up. And after you pick it up too, for that matter. Enjoy!

Part of the price difference could be down to the type of dealer selling the car. Remember that Maserati dealers will work on a £10k gross margin but do prep cars to a high level with front end resprays not uncommon to get ride of stone chips. Smaller dealers will be cheaper but warranties are often not as impressive.

Pics as promised:
I don't mind going to pick it up, its all part of the fun.It will be a nice final blast in the R8 and a lovely drive back in the GTS.
Both the cars I was after were at Maserati dealers,This one is a year newer so I felt the better buy considering the price was more or less the same as was mileage.

Sometimes you can get a dealer who's stock needs moving and get a good price. Looks like you did - well done. All depends how much they want your px too.

I got the best of both worlds, I started off going down the P/X route and got a decent price for my car and a small reduction off the screen price.I then got a good cash price off a trader, so went back to the dealer to see how much they would knock off for a deal without my P/X, this equated to £5500 off the advertised price. They then rang back after a few days to say I could have the car at the reduced price and they would match the other dealers bid for my car to save me the hassle of doing two deals. They obviously had a very good margin in the car and they'll still make a few grand on my car which is fair enough, I'm more than happy with the deal.

Well got it at last.Bit of a nightmare journey home with all the rain, but worth it in the end.Included a little detour to pick up some lovely wheels from Dicky Grace.Great handover at Dick Lovett at their fantastic dealership, wow what a collection of cars they have there, Enzo, F40's and 40+ other fezza's in one of their three indoor showrooms, amazing place.Absolutely loving the Gran Turismo, just wishing for some better weather. It's filthy with all the rain, so here's a pic of it in the handover bay yesterday.
