Dash Cams..............why they are necessary here!

I recently just purchased some ebay dash cams, I think they were like $60 for front and rear. I know this will sound crazy but I mainly bought them for the Police more than other motorist. Now, I do have incidents all the time in Boston, please see video below. This is just a couple normal days there.

For the Police what I noticed them doing, and not so much to begin with until after I bought my radar/laser detector. What happens is when I am pulled over in my Mercedes, it's a Sportier version C class with rims, and tinted windows, they aren't actually scanning me by Radar or Laser though they initially are saying they are. For instance, I even had one State Police Officer go so far as to mark Radar on the ticket, mark 85mph in a 55 mph, then cross out radar and put estimated and clocked. Next, he marked out 85 mph down to 80. When I questioned him about how he ascertained my speed, and I wouldn't mind seeing the radar, he told me he followed me and clocked me by his speedometer. I had a huge problem with this as he was never following me, I moved over, and he stopped about 50-75 yards in front of me on a highway, he proceeded to back down the break down lane towards my car, and stepped out and asked me to pull in front of him. The funny thing is the reason I bought the radar detector was because I would get a ticket and it didn't make sense. They walk up to your window, ask for license and registration correct? I know they are looking around the vehicle because they have what is called the "Plain sight" doctrine that doesn't require them to have probably cause. I never really considered that they also could be looking to see if I had a radar/laser detector to call their bluff on something. I would like to say it's only happened once......but nope. I just finished fighting a ticket where the local officer went so far as to threaten to arrest me if I didn't hide the radar detector because they are "illegal". Oddly enough the first thing he asked was "does that work", after I told him what I paid for it and how good it worked that's when he got upset. He told me he got me on radar, and of course I never argue with them there. When I received the ticket he left it all blank but the speed. I had someone else in the car with me. When I went to the magistrate hearing, they were baffled because I wanted to know how he ascertained my speed, and they couldn't tell me. There were absolutely no notes on the ticket. Either way, here's the quick video,

Sure Catman, for you anything.......I actually saw some reviews on these cheap cameras on the internet that they were selling on ebay. I decided for $60 USD what the heck. I would rather have something than nothing. I included the link below where I bought them from, although some of the writing is misspelled, I think it's more because of it not originating in English territory than ignorance. If you notice the rear cam in the day light is much better but a little less clear. I think that's because of my tint on the windows than it is the camera itself:

They look really good, thanks Craig. I may see if I can find a UK supplier. After my drifting day, I really fancy a camera in the car. Just not at £300 for the Go Pro

@Catman, I definitely agree with you, Go Pro is a bit to expensive and honestly I feel that there are a few cheaper cameras out there where you can get decent HD quality. I have a fuel cell mount for my Sport bike as well I bought a year ago, and already there seem to be cheaper better cheaper cameras on the market.

@Drew my friend the sound track was a youtube special that you can use over the camera feed for free. The funny thing is I went to look for the name of it, and I cannot find it anywhere. I liked it as well, seemed to add a bit of unsettling intensity to it.

Fuel cell? Providing USB power? I want!

Whoops.....hopefully I didn't confuse you on that. Yes I bought a fuel cell camera mount for my Sport bike. It must of been about a year ago from a Sport bike forum member. It was a great design with a universal fit for many bike applications. It also had a universal design so that you could mount many different cameras to it. Unfortunately, I don't remember who the guy was. The camera I use is a small hand held hd camera. I am sure I could have run wiring from the battery to connect for power but the battery on the device works for long enough periods for me. The great thing about the camera mount is, when the camera gets out dated, which they always do, because of the universal mount you can just upgrade it. It sits at a perfect position to not interfere with driving.

Thanks Craig - will look into it :)

LOL that's great.......what do you think they thought when they saw themselves on camera? I think the craziest one out of all of those was the person throwing themselves underneath a tractor trailer. I can see you chancing the cars but a big rig.......that must of been a suicide attempt!!

I bought my one off Ebay for £28 and it is used lots. Not bad quality and so easy to mount and unmount. Very useful imo.

Quite right, too. If anyone decided to throw themselves over the bonnet of my car I'd be tempted to make **** sure the resulting injuries were at least comparable with an actual accident.

Trouble with Russia is that any "accident", even where no damage is caused to anyone or anything, must be attended by the police. And you can't move the vehicles. That's one of the reasons why the traffic is so awful. Also, driving is pretty awful, too. Genuinely scary.
