CTEK or similar

So they're good these CTEKs then?

Any recommendations for specific models?

As you may infer, the 4200 isn't going to start. Not that I was going to take it anywhere. Unlocked fine, window dropper, booted up OK, but classic chatter when trying to start as the starter engages, the voltage drops, and it disengages. So turned it off, locked it up and walked away :)

Can't jump it as it's reversed up to the garage. Might buy a jumper pack as well.

Oh well. Any recommendations, particularly if Halfords stock it, would be super.

TIA

I bought a CTEK MXS 5.0 from Amazon. It's great, highly recommended. The stock in Halfords and other motor spares places was pretty poor, and Amazon was cheapest (a privilege of not paying any tax, I suppose).

Edit: Lidl and Aldi from time to time sell an identical model to the lower powered CTEKs for about £15. OK for topping up but not gutsy enough for a full enlarge / conditioning.

Thanks, Adam. I think a full power one is required. Clearly with the weather we get, the 4200 is more likely to stand for a week plus than the old GT was. Equally clearly it has a battery appetite so a hard wired connection into the garage I think....

Groovy, can't find the spec for the battery, oddly.

Halfrauds don't have the MXS5.0 in stock. Might be an Aamzon special coming on, possibly just disconnect the master switch, resigning myself to not going anywhere for a while.

Oh thanks, Klive.

I might take you up on that, since I'm not going to be able to make it to work tomorrow. Mrs Catman's 147 is pretty much stuck so it would be nice to start the fix of the 4200 ASAP.

Currently I've tripped the master switch so battery shouldn't get worse.

Law of sod, my Amazon order offered next day delivery, but only to the *office*. Not here for tomorrow :(

At least I know it'll be there when I get there.

Speechless! 23 minutes and the charger is delivered. Best forum ever, Klive I owe you a beer on the return!

Connected up this morning. Says it's charging happily so looking good.

Klive, are you a wine drinker by any chance?

LOL. His driving was wonderful! The very fact that he made the effort is indicative of that :)

Had a look this afternoon. The 'charged' light was just coming on so I thought I'd give it a whirl.

Note to self: Wait for the correct period of time after turning on the ignition :) Still it fired right up. Ran her up to full temp.

Had some interesting error lights, including CC error, but popping it into first and back a couple of times seems to have cleared that. I guess I won't know until I've had her out on the road again.

CTEK is now back in the boot, keeping things toasty until I get mine (which should be tomorrow, I managed to dig Mrs Catman's car out). Kilve let me know if you need it back earlier?

No rush and no bottle required. I've had a lot of help from others on this forum so always willing to offer something back.
Anyway you can tell me your chips away person, that'll help me a lot.

With regards to my driving, I wasn't sure if I parked on your lawn as I've never been that deep into that neck of the woods before. :auto14:

Cheers. The wine was more a 'drop round for a glass, as I have a pal who etc etc' :)

Keith Wilson: +447834884028. If you want to see before and after without giving the game away, he's doing some work on the 147 and the 4200 on Feb first. Come round before and after, as it were :)

Lawn? I have lawn? ;) it's totally screwed after the rain and Christmas parking, so no problem at all.

I know someone using one of the £15 Lidl ones and he's perfectly happy with it. I looked at all the tech specs and my eyes started to glaze over so I used some perfectly good man-logic and ordered the dearest one from Halfords online. It was delivered a day or two later and has been hooked up to the QP ever since.

Mine arrived from Amazon yesterday (although to the office)
It has many lights (14) and a button as well, and therefore is almost certainly more manly logically better than yours :)

Having said that the 3.6 was obviously more than capable, and quite a lot cheaper.
