I will second that, I have had my manual 4200 GT facelift advertised on here, Pistonheads and Cars and Classics. So far one enquiry. It was up for £15,999 which I guess is too strong for the current market. I have reduced it to a poultry £12,500, seems criminal for such a nice car :(.

Ad if anyones interested > https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/maserati-4200-coupe-manual-facelift-low-milage-reduced-to-£12500.37759/
My story is quite similar. Since 2016 my 3200 has had £32k spent on it - mainly by previous owners - so I thought my original asking price of £13,999 was reasonable. It was up on Autotrader for several months with little genuine interest. I reduced the price by £2k for a while but that didn't deliver any offers so I've now removed it from Autotrader. I've had some px offers for the car so that maybe a way forward(?). I think people have a growing sense of a socio-political-economic **** storm that's brewing over the horizon and under those circumstances buying Maseratis goes off the agenda ...

I reckon it’s just stuff that’s overpriced ( I don’t think yours is as I’ve told you that’s what I’d sell it for). Cars need to be exceptionally good value in an economic downturn. They’ve been falling for 2 years now (they peaked at frankly daft prices in October 2021) and lots of cars are starting to look value across all marques. It’s busy in the market if the cars are well priced. We’ve sold a Stradale, 2 Granturismo Sports, a 2010 MC Shift and an F430 in the last 2 weeks.

I’ve been looking at all sorts I see as value now:

£150k MC20
£125k Portofino
£85k Levante Trofeo
£50k Gen 3 GT Sports
£20k Gransports

All sorts of other stuff too, such as V10+ R8’s, Stelvio QV’s, Cayman GT4’s……

Warren Buffet’s sort of thinking is required nowadays:

“Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful”

Basically buy when everyone else is panicking and sell when everyone else isn’t. Now is one of those times.

I'm looking on there regularly it's the same for most cars it seems when comparing to UK prices.
I visited a French Independent Dealer like Richard Grace in the Summer and follow him and he's selling Maseratis every month it seems along with other nice cars.
He was in the mountains in the Averyon buys from all over Europe and even sells back to other EU countries a very busy guy doing exactly what his passion is.
It's the same here now the revenue have decided to add 23% VAT plus import duty on all UK cars coming here, including classics, prices have risen dramatically. You can still bring cars in from EU countries but as you say prices there are already strong.

Yes, I buy into that contrarian perspective, which probably helps to explain why I bought a Maserati in the first place. Fear / risk is certainly a factor in the purchasing decision (particularly with these cars because of the potential cost of buying a bad one) and I think that gets a bit magnified when you’re buying privately vs from a trusted trader with a sound reputation in the marque … I think the Coupes are quite hard to shift if you’re selling privately, unless you give ‘em away.

The hire car cost thing I think is still a big scam. Sure, repairs may take longer if waiting for parts, but I’m sure some are taking advantage.

Guy at work had minor rear end nudge on his A5 tdi, bumper and exhaust damage as below. They strung out repair for 2 months, saying they were waiting for an exhaust back box, during which time he was given a Audi TTS convertible……. I’m guessing the ‘hire’ cost was probably 2-250/day? So about £15k, plus repair costs, which I think he said they charged 5 or 6k……

Car is worth about £10k max….

The cost of car hire can contribute to a car being written off, complete madness.

I suppose you have newer models depressing older model.

4.7 GranTurismo at £25k push Gransports and 4.7 S QP’s to £20k which in turn push facelift 4200’s to £12k then anything older goes into the sub £10k class

Suppose we should celebrate that the models are hardy and are still going.

Parts prices don’t help:
Clutch packs £2000
Clutch bearings £700
Flywheels £800
This effect seems to be getting stronger if you look at This GranTurismo on Car and Classic.

Like I said earlier, I think the market is getting softer because of the prevailing economic conditions, and prices at auction / privately are depressed because people know they're taking a punt in that context when there's no legal protection vs buying from a reputable dealer. The Granturismo may not have finished depreciating to the bottom of the curve yet or low prices may just reflect poor quality / high mileage cars without service history that are going to need quite a lot spending on them(?). I think the 3200, 4200 and Gransport are differentiated enough from the Granturismo to avoid having their prices influenced by it. I don't buy into the idea that everyone wants to 'move up' through the Coupe range to a Granturismo because it's thought to be technically a better car. The 3200 looks like much more of a "classic car" IMHO and ought to be priced accordingly.

While Gransport prices for example are getting firmer here (NL/DE/FR) less offered also.
Granturismo lowest available ca. 35k, diving under GS prices.
3200 seem a bit harder to trade, but only some “not so nice ones” are offered below 20k.
And most cars offered, are not the greatest.

I think the really good cars are owned meanwhile by people who are simply keeping them.
it is really astonishing reading about those prices in the UK….

3200’s are fast approaching eligibility for export to the USA under their 25 year rule. A good prospect if you happen to own a left hooker(?)! … This may already be reflected in EU asking prices.

Gauging values of 4200/GS in the US don't think there is more appreciation over there than here, so can't see why this wouldn't apply to the 3200 which visually is very similar.

It can't be easy though maintaining these cars in the US if never sold there. Expertise one, spares availability a big two!

This had a massive impact on SZ prices, although they are all LHD (well almost), prices almost doubled. Good news if you had one and were looking to sell.
