Mines £188 for 10 months, up £10 from last year. Largest percentage increase was 9.9% for the police which looks to be N.Yorks wide. Given the number of cars that get bent on Traffic Cops they need the money.
Seriously though what do people expect? We've had 40 years of lowering taxes to the point where there is little fat to cut, other than to get rid of those that are doing the fat cutting so they won't get rid of themselves, so tax goes up and we lose more services.
The German comedian Henning Wehn is quoted as saying; "we don't have charities in Germany, we pay taxes".
We need to get a grip and realise that we can't have good things for free unless we pay more tax. This is nice roads, decent services, etc. I remember when University education was free, prescriptions were free, (for those of us outside Scotland). The people that suffer the most here are those that have the least. The "load-a-money" culture from the '80s has become so embedded that we don't seem to care for anyone but ourselves any more.
