Guys,

Now and then, sometimes after just a 5 minutes short drive, i hear the fans come in and never stop again.
In that case a stop and restart will make no difference: the fans start immediately after starting the engine.
The only cure is to switch of the battery. (hard reset)
Then days/a week without any problems whatsoever.

any ideas?

(gransport btw)

It sounds like the resister may be shot just behind the front grill, or the thermostat.

Is the temp gauge, getting up to just under 90 degrees? Because, I come across this problem all the time. Its a faulty Temp sensor, that triggers the fans. Now, some cars, have more then one temp sensor. Not sure on the Masser, without a wiring diagram. But if it has 2, usually one on the Thermostat, and one on the radiator. But some Thermostats, have 2 sensors, the other, runs the gauge.
Like it says above, a faulty resistor, can also trigger it.

Most likely the resistor at bottom of radiator (wire-wound and prone to corrosion, when the full-on fans start cutting in!).
