Yep, that's my understanding. Sure there will be an element of extra work to dismantle the plastic box and remove / replace the matrix. An hour *max* I'd have thought.

That "How To" described it as a two day job mate. Looks intense, you have to strip out the ENTIRE dash!

Yes you do. Frankly I doubt it'll be two days for someone that's done it before, but it's certainly no small task. You can see how comparatively trivial changing the matrix in the box is.

Is the heater matrix the same on both a 3200 and 4200?

It *might* be, but the listed part for the evaporator box 4200 / GS is not listed for the 3200.

Also, I've not heard of the problem in the 3200.

Car all sorted now. Garage confirmed it was the heater matrix and replaced with the one I purchased from Alfa Romeo 166. There doesn't appear to be any longterm damaged caused by the leak coolant leak.

Felice was a star and a true professional! I called him initially to discuss the problem and he was extremely engaging and took the time to explain things to me. He quoted me £600 plus vat to provide the labour to replace the heater matrix (which I supplied). I dropped the car off on Friday afternoon and it was ready Monday morning for me to collect. They spent Saturday and Sunday working on the car for it to be ready for me. I've asked him about other work on the Mas and he's happy to do it. He is very genuine and seems to have a real passion for Italian cars. He mainly works on Alfas (vintage and new models), but has a few regular Maserati and Ferrari clients. I would definitely use him again for work on my car.

My car is a 2005 4200 and I plan to keep it for as long as possible. I've already done 25K in the three years I've had the car. I'm comfortable using a good indy as opposed to a main dealer. For me it's all about building a relationship with someone who you can trust and provides value for money.
