Clutch biting point relative to RPM.

Could someone tell me at what RPM the clutch starts to bite. This is on a 2003 4200 CC. The engine in my car idles at an indicated 1000 RPM, the clutch seems to bite at about 1200 RPM. This makes a smooth take off a bit of a challenge as pressing the accelerator at this point is a bit like walking on eggs. So unless I'm very careful with my right foot the clutch seems to bite as soon as I touch the pedal. Is this right, are they supposed to be like this or does the biting point need some adjustment.

I think 1200 might be a *tiny* bit low, but not much. IME you'll find it far more rewarding if you don't pussyfoot around are positive in your approach :) . You do need to *drive* a cc box.

Might be worth checking the PIS though....

I don't think the QP is fully engaged until above 1500rpm.
Certainly I never let it hang around in the 1200-1600 zone. Always change down early. And always push it through there quickly on taking off. Which makes crawling through traffic difficult. And traffic queues on an incline to a roundabout or traffic lights... the worst.
There's a post about this on here somewhere isn't there?

It's low speed stuff that's a pain, like reversing out of my drive, which seems to consist of a series of a series of short dabs on and off the throttle. Otherwise it sets off with a rush which is not good within the confines of my drive. It will also quite randomly produce a burst of unwanted power but only when in reverse and only when cold. The warmer the weather and the warmer the engine the better behaved it is. Once the cars on the move it's fine. Just the low speed stuff that's the problem. I find this very difficult to describe so apologies if it's hard to understand. I did a full battery re set as described by Voicey a couple of months ago which improved things no end but it still doesn't seem quite right to me.

My QPV certainly doesn't do that even in it's most cranky mood, it's as good as any old-style friction clutch car apart from the odd time it can't make it's mind up when cold but it's never done anything like you describe.

I don't know what to suggest really....
