Be aware that the Eurocaroparts website recommends the wrong sized battery for the GTS. You need to select the QP battery.

So called the dealer said I have the car being recovered can they please fit a new battery and give me the car backtodayor tomorrow as I am back to work next week. Answer so far is no! Apparently need to runa diagnosis which takes 24hrs so i said why not fit new battery and give me the car back skip the Test. They say no because they have to charge a new battery for 24 hours as well! So they need a minimum of 24hrs to fit a new battery does that sound right?

They don't appear to be very helpful.......when I buy a new battery, you just stick it straight in after they check it of course

Buy it, fit it, drive off. Is how it should work. But if they need to charge the battery then so be it. Can they give you a loaner?

These cars do need a CTEK. You don't have to use it all the time but the battery can be run down over time without you realising it so it is a bit of a guessing game.

BTW you can get into the car with a dead battery.

A battery conditioner, keep it connected whilst unused, the V8 is a heavy lump to turn over, anything less than 100% efficiency leads to early failure

Get an extansion lead? No need to have the car connected all of the time. I have CTEK with two sets of battery terminals, so I can easily connect to either car.

Might be worth trying a solar recharging unit, assuming car is outside.

As Alfatwo mentioned earlier, you could buy one of the micro start batteries but these will only work if you have a partially drained battery. They don't have enough power to start the car on their own - look at the CCA ratings and they only have about half of what is required.
What I've done is buy one of these http://www.halfords.com/motoring/bu...-12v-silver-car-battery-hsb019-5-yr-guarantee along with some jump leads - make sure the jump leads are also rated high enough. The spare battery fits in the compartment under the boot floor where the tyre kit is normally kept and the jump leads are in where the normal battery goes. Overkill maybe but means that I should never be stranded by a flat battery.

True. so car now with the gents at HR owen all very nice and want to be helpful. Say they cannot just swap for a new one. Have to recharge it, test it and then if it comes back "normal" return the vehicle to me. The risk sadly is another inconvenience for me next time it does not start. But they want to save on a new battery. Otherwise I can fork out £600 for a new one. So I am resigned to having the courtesy car till whenever they are done seems it's the process they have to go through. That said they mentioned installing a cut off switch so when's go away for long periods I can just disconnect it. I can't help thinking we should not be having this as an issue at all given the price point of this vehicle. But I am learning to be more philosophical and just relax.. Breathing excercises commenced. May take 2 to 3 days it's fine.

Don't buy a battery from a dealer, a waste of money..!! You can get a top class battery from a leading battery manufacturer with a 5 year guarantee for substantially less than that..!!

Tell them to take a hike.
I rather doubt they have a stock of flat batteries on the shelves, so I'd dispute their 'we have to charge it for 24 hours'
24 hour test seems dubious at best as well.
