Buy a Bosch for less than £150 and the chances are you'll have a better battery with a longer warranty.

Update - they fitted a new battery and the car is awesome again.. All under warranty so am happy for now! Funny it feels better I think there was something wrong already now it's smoother.

The act of fitting a new battery gives most cars a "master reset". All driving history is generally wiped, and car goes into "adaptive learn mode". Especially drive by wire throttles, which get affected by lack of full throttle use.

My battery has just died as well. Can't even open the car. No dash lights. Absolutely zero.

Should I bother trying to recharge the battery? It is a genuine maserati one.

Or should I just buy a Bosch? Is it going to be a lot better?

There is a high chance that the battery is fine once it's been on a CTEK for a day. I say this from first hand experience (twice)!

Yeah. Going to try and recharge it. Can anyone recommend a battery recharger? Unfortunately my garage is too far and there is no power there.

Bosch must love the GrandTurismo :) I'd love to know the cause of these battery failures.

Anyone else have issues after a flat battery?
Have used CTEK to resurrect the OEM battery (FIAMM) so car will now start. The CTEK comfort monitor shows green LED so battery voltages is good.

Dash display has both airbag lights lit and error "System is not programmed" along with warning triangle.

Turn it off and come back an hour later.

Also, if the battery has been flattened, voltage my be OK, but it may not be able to support the load on starting causing all sorts of odd effects

If battery is now good, try switching off in the boot for at least 10-15 minutes to allow everything to be sure it's off, then switch back on again. Switch on ignition without starting engine, twice, then start engine third time. See if lights have gone off after you have run engine for 5 minutes..

Thanks Rob
The QP does not appear to have a battery master switch, so will disconnect if the symptoms persist.

An new Bosch S5 silver is on the way.

So my Granturismo has been stood on the drive since Christmas Eve. Covered in snow since Boxing Day..... And I came to start it today and all I got was a click and lots of weird dash warnings. Battery completely flat!
Much scrambling about under the rear seat and managed to open the boot and get the battery on charge.... But the thing is it's not an old battery, and its a decent one: http://www.thebatteryshop.co.uk/yuasa-12v-100ah-900a-silver-car-battery-ybx5019-hsb019-8566-p.asp
So, can I now assume that Granturismos can't cope with a combination of freezing temperatures and a week off work? Seems bizarre. :frusty5:

About 6 months after buying my GT from Bowkers, the battery died. The car is garaged and hardly used so I was perplexed.

I got a new battery fitted by the RAC and everything has been fine since. And that was over a year ago.

Clearly the battery was shot when I bought the car :-(

I think that could have been your problem - they need to be on a trickle charger if left

Hhhhmm - I'm not sure about that.

I have used (or not used!) the car the same amount since then, left it for weeks without starting etc, in exactly the same surroundings (i.e. garaged etc) and it ALWAYS starts first time now. From what I have seen, much of the trickle charging advice just seems to be a waste of time if you just replace the battery at £150, I think it cost all fitted at home.

The previous battery looked to be the original sold with the car (at least it was a Maserati supplied one) and so was just knackered, which is a bit disappointing seeing as I bought it from a Maserati dealer.

The other point worth mentioning is that I just got the RAC to fit their standard battery and it seems fine - I didn't specify exactly which type of battery that I wanted. And all seems fine.

Likewise, used the AA, I think the make is Yuasa? Anyway, they tested the 6 yr old Maserati one - it too was shot. Sold and fitted the AA one - £130 ish - been fine since. BTW the battery comes with a 4 yr warranty from the AA to replace and fit a new one. No brainer really.

Some sense!

This seems to be easily the most sensible and practical option rather than fiddling about with trickle chargers etc
