Cheap Ghibli

For someone wanting a cheap supercar for Fiat 500 money it is probably a good place to start. There are not many supercars at this sort of price level and providing one takes sensible precautions like buying with full Maserati service history and getting an independent inspection it may prove to be a worthwhile venture. One also has to remember though that being a supercar it will require ongoing servicing and that is not cheap. Even better if you can afford a 2001 car where many of the early model gremlins had been sorted out. A 4200 would be more sensible but then we are talking more money again.

What is certain is that it is likely to be a more sensible proposition than an early Biturbo

Yes I jest...I do agree UM. 3200's are fantastic value for money but as you say running one can not be done on a shoestring.

Quite like the Ghibli, especially the Cup, i would strip it out, lower it, maybe up the power slightly with proper tuning and not a stupid ECU and make it a track car.

Adam, one of our other members has done just that and has a Ghibli as his track car and a 4200 spyder as the weekend toy...as well as an asortment of boats hence why we never hear from Malcolm in the Summer!

Good old Malc.....Is he a member on here....He was coming to the track day in Llandow but it clashes with a photo shoot in the South of France....I can see why he isn't coming to be honest.

Isn't P622 a well known car...Was it Harry's from EVO's old car....I know he had a private plate M4 SER on it but that P622 rings a bell.

Hi guys, just to add my 2p'th.

I'm pretty horrified at the prices at the moment, I'm really hoping they pick up a bit - Meridien certainly seem to be doing their bit for the cause tho :D

Shame to see people bashing the Ghibli here and suggesting that the 3200 is a better buy - I'm not sure about that at all to be honest, the opinions I've heard from people who've looked after my Ghibli seem to suggest the complete opposite. I've heard all sorts of horror stories about the 3200's and they seem to have a terrible reputation among the various Maserati dealers and specialists for reliability. Ghiblis on the other hand, they all come out and have a look if you take one over there. It's quite funny!

I've only had a couple of major issues with mine, one being the dreaded cracked front chassis strut but then the 3200 gets that issue just the same. In the meantime, you can find specialists who will service and care for your car for a very good price. I can also tell you that in standard form my 2.8 is perfectly capable of keeping up with a PH hoon, and that is considerably faster than I would ever want to drive normally.

It's a real shame that what,in the end (GT and Cup guise), turned out to be a very good car gets hammered just because it's part of the biturbo bloodline, when something that's equally an evolution of the same bloodline (3200), just in a pretty suit, is feited.

Have to agree with you in part there, but you forgot to add the dreaded rust infestations that the Bi turbo era cars were prone to, and the more recent rumblings and groans of the extortionate prices for some ghibli/biturbo parts , thats if there available ,

Prestige and performance wise the BI turbo and Ghibli's are up there with the coupes ,atleast for everday driving dont let people tell you otherwise , you just need to be a little more on the ball maintenance wise and tlc wise , a price well worth paying for any Masser

regards loz

I am one who loves the Ghibli..It's a great car and in Cup form a very capable car.....The problem is it a required taste compaired to the flowing lines of the 3200.

Have to agree with you on that Andy. My wife calls my Ghibli a "Cortina" cheeky *****! but luv's the 3200 AC.
She as most just cant get the fact the the ghib is a fantastic drivers car and a real hand full.

People go on about the brutal power a 3200 dishes out, well just think of that with no traction control and less weight...................................

YEA BABY!!!

long live the Ghibli in all it's forms.
