yes 4200 series s/b ok but double check with distributor/factory

Main thing to check is if u have 2 bolt or 4 bolt flange where they connect to the primary cats as variations do exist between export markets & manufacturing year.

(One of our MMG members has extensively researched & written an excellent document on exhaust for 4200 Masa's - its proprietary but will ask if he is willing to share)

That would be an interesting read.

It would, but he could have saved himself a shitload of time by going straight through straight away. Most of you guys probably will, as soon as you hear what it should sound like you will realise that it's the only logical way ahead.

Ha, No chance - we want our cars on the road not at our equivalent of a MOT checking station

One of our groups car was black listed (3200 with only Larini back boxes) - didnt deter him from turning up for Sunday's run ---- in his manual F550 (envious)

Seriously u need a balance - we have enough hoon vehicles on our roads as is

Well one things for sure, we'll all get one in the end, so best enjoy yourself before they screw the lid down.
Remember, we are here for a good time, not a long time.

Member Amazerati has kindly allowed the document to be made public.

http://www.sportsmaserati.co.uk/uploads/maserati_4200_exhaust.pdf

Purpose of the document is to provide a thorough overview of the exhaust sytems that were standard fitments to the 4200 series.

Whilst options and brands of aftermarket compents are glanced over, the text does not attempt to make solid recommendations given owners preference for sounds, costs etc are varied.

Txs Gordon for the information doco.

Other than not wanting the car to be too loud, I quite like the unique squarish designed shiny GS stock tail pipes. That's part of the reason I dont want to go down to Larini rear boxes.

As far as i have read....almost NO ONE has changed his mind about installing rear boxes, no matter how loud they were..

Thanks for posting that up, very interesting read and has cleared my mind on a few issues. The main one being the difference with the US cars (mainly) having the primary CATS in the exhaust manifold. Also, if I understand correctly, the de-CAT pipes for US spec still retain the primary CATS (being part of the manifold), but for those in the UK and rest of world, all the CATS are removed.

Since I started this thread yesterday, I've done a suprise deal on a pair of Larini rear boxes after all, I blame BennyD, I was trying to be conservative on the noise concentrating on the front end BHP gains!

Thanks
Mike

And there is a very good reason for that Nikos; Maseratis sound fabulous and letting them breath makes them sound even better. Very good article by the way so thanks to the author and the poster.

I did just that! Just sold my Larinis to a fellow member. Too loud for me in town. I've got a Hawk Stratos that's fitted with an Alfa V6 and very little silencing. It's probably louder as most stuff driven on here - BennyD excepted, of course ;). I've had a chap beat on the roof of the car in anger as I sat at the lights. He was complaining about the noise. But, I shrugged and mouthed that I couldn't hear him. :D

It's certainly louder in the cabin than any Maserati. In fact, I've had to buy a satnav with a headphone jack just so that I can hear instructions in the cabin.

After a few months with the Larinis, I just decided that having two really loud cars was a step too far. However, reading this thread, I like the idea of the Larini x-pipes, a change in the tone of the exhaust would be "a good thing".

Elliot, get yourself a spyder; with the roof down the cabin space is infinite, the drone is much reduced, no resonance and you don't get idiots beating on the roof!
