Having lavished the day on my car it owed me a good thrashing down the lanes this evening! I backed it off the drive and it gave me a series of bleeps and a CC red warning light that would not go away I stopped and restarted even locking the car but no improvement. Drove to the local park and parked up nose into the bay.

Isolated the battery and went off for a walk for 1/2 hour. Completed the reset with a 10 minute idle but the light was still there... bu99er I thought there goes ariving in style tomorrow! But worse - no reverse!!!!! Had to get out and push it back out of the bay = amazingly though THIS CLEARED THE FAULT!!!! Perfect all the rest of the resetting blast...

Just out of interest, was the car in Neutral or Reverse when you pushed it?

Hope it was just a gremlin!

Sounds bizarre Newton......this is what happened my CC as I went over the Milau bridge in France in May, didn't loose reverse, but whenever I engaged reverse it then beeped and the light kept coming on and off intermittently.

Diagnosed by Autoshield as a glitch in the reverse pod software....since changed and going fine.

Display was showing Neutral but I had been repeatedly trying to get reverse; it would give me 1 & 2 and back to Neutral but not reverse....

It is just freaky that a full reset did not clear it so I'd put money on a micro switch not registering something, rolling it backwards muist have cleared whatever had glitched!

She has just completed am almost complete curcuit of the M25 without a problem. Dropped off at M1 to North Citrcular and out on A316 to get to Chertsey for Sally's drive in a DB9.

newton , the micro switch connectors have a habit of working loose over bumps take it and check , 2ndly check your cc fluid , if you a little bit low it shows on the reverse first apparently , actuator can get an airlock

THanks Loz, I know my clutch has a small hydraulic leack on the controller assembly (black plastic end moulding seal) so I could well be looking at early fluid issued.

Are the micro switches on the gearbox or associated with the switch? I had just had the drivers footwell carpet out & could have knocked soething I suppose?

Switch is literally on the end of the little lever , un do the allen screws and all will be revealed easily

What is the process for lifting out the lever & button plate, I've never managed it for fear of breaking something!

The round/oval plate is held in with 2 allen/star screws as i recall , just undo those and the whole plate will lift out , you will see the microswitch conector on the bottom of the lever , there is anough length on all the wires to turn it over and have a good look , worth playing with the switch manually with the ignition on to see whether it works or not , take it newton the pump is still firing up when you open the door or turn on the ignition

Faultless as ever Loz, THe amount of clear fluid loss from the clutch actuator is minimal, I'm hoping a local Alfa speciallist can sort it for me on the motor as from a ramp it is easily accessed, sitting as it does on the side of the gearbox. I think the bigger job is topping up the levels.

Topping up is easy whilst on the ramp , just need a gear oil type bottle with a thin 6-8mm tube about a foot long , a small handed person like me can just squeeze a finger inside once you have twisted the top off to gauge how low it might be then just fill it to the very top

So is that a serious alternative to taking the whole boot apart Loz? I can get easy access to a lift if that is the case!

Boot removal is not necessary for topping up Newton , only pump for removal /exchange topping up using a ramp is dead easy with little hands and the right bottle feeder
