Car keeps cutting out

Hi people it’s been a wile since I was last here. Been getting my old girl back on the road. The car will run for about 10 minutes then cut out. Starts again in an hour not had anyone look at it as can’t drive anywhere. Any suggestions before I check it into a garage.
the problem was probably self inflicted as wile not running for 2 years I’d always start up and drive back and forth on the drive, over 2 years this used all my fuel so when I drove to the petrol station I’d run out of petrol. Filled up and this was when the problem started. Yes I was thinking petrol pumps but because it starts and runs for 10 mins or so I was thinking there was something else could be wrong

I guess the good news is that it’s not something mechanical, as it runs. But the bad news is it could be a niggly issue to find. As above, it’s a code reader. Depending where you are, someone might be willing to assist with their machine.

Maybe crack open the fuel lines at the injector rails and check for good flow - engine cold and not running.
Assume fuel pumps run just on ignition?

Also worth check for any rodent damage if been laid up that long

As others have said get a code reader, even the cheapest from Machine Mart will be useful as it's an engine issue. I'd suggest it's something getting hot, so crank sensor, fuel pumps or maybe a relay, worth feeling all the relays and checking the fuse blocks for signs of overheating

Is the fuel cap breathing properly? A chap I was chatting to at a car show had something similar happen after filling up. Spent many £££s trying to suss out the problem only to find out there was a vacuum being created in the tank.

I'd clean the MAF, clean the throttle body, put in some fuel injector cleaner (Sea Foam) and the try an "Italian tune-up".

As you ran out of petrol my hunch is you picked up some **** at the bottom of the tank which is clogging the filter or filters. Often only gives an issue under load or after running a while. Pretty sure this will be something in the fuel line somewhere, start with the basics.

I’d also block the Vapor canister off at the hose to the inlet manifold, this would eliminate the evaporation system which if saturated could cause it to run way too rich and stall.

Very easy to test that theory by clamping the hose to inlet manifold with some mole grips, hose circled in red below

Better to use a brake hose clamp as mole grips could damage the hose and create another problem.
