This was very tempting. Cat C means it’s not one for investors, but as a forever car it looks good.
The rear bumper warp is the only real blemish I can see.

I’d even be willing to overlook the lack of three pedals - these are cruisers rather than outright bruisers after all.
Lovely colour too.
Not bad , but consider the opposition to this, an E30 325i cabiolet... which one would be cooler/ easier to live with? Discuss...

This looks in good nick, and good value...

Nice! But presumably still expensive.
Anyone hazard a guess on what it’s worth?
Autotrader suggests around £80k for a straight sale, but as this is a bankruptcy disposal I'd guess a bit less. Massive spec though, low mileage, and clean MOT, so could be a very good buy. If I had £70-80k doing nothing I'd be very tempted.

It's an 8 year old S Class. I'd be thinking more like £50k at best. But it's not my area of expertise.

Buyer’s remorse? Or not actually sold at previous auction so now on EBay?
I like it. Though it would be fun to fit the blistered arches from a mk 2 Ghibli (if that’s even possible).
I've a feeling it was unsold from the previous auction. Personally I think that result (£12,750) was pretty good considering the HPI status and the fact it needs some mechanical fettling, from the description. While a fully repaired Cat C isn't a problem as an ownership prospect, selling it on would be.
It's why I've stopped short of buying/restoring several cars, Maseratis of this era, before – while I wouldn't be flipping the car in a sales sense, there's always that little bit at the back of my mind; what if I needed to sell the car quickly? If the worst comes to the worst, expecting to lose a fair bit is expected – Maseratis are tricky to sell at the best of times – but if it's got an odd colour combination or a CAT status, it gets even more challenging. It's why I didn't take on the blue RHD 222 4v project from last year, for example.

I don't think of my car as an asset - because it really isn't !

Just there to provide entertainment and expect to get peanuts, if anything, when the time eventually comes

Neither me, but even as an enthusiast, I tend to think about the worst possible outcome ie having to sell quickly.

I think you'll have to give up the notion of it having any value. You'll rest easier.

Luckily the amount I'm talking about I could "afford" to lose but it would surely be disappointing. If I felt otherwise I couldn't own the car. It could be a write off tomorrow.

Not mine either Ewan; I only did a bit of digging when I received the email from WH, and decent S65's seem to be well north of £60k; although this is a distress sale it's also very highly specced and might well appeal to a MB enthusiast. As ever, it's only 'worth' what someone will pay, and whether that's a cheeky £40k or risky £70k is anyone's guess.
