Cambiocorsa issue help

Hi All

looking for some input on an issue with my 2002 Cambiocorsa coupe

It went into N neutral from 3rd gear approaching traffic lights and I can’t select any gears or reverse now, was only on the road about 5min so not hot etc

No Cambiocorsa light on dash
Switch’s for bonnet, door and brake pedal seem ok
Fuses and relays seem ok
Fluid level fine and no obvious leaks

It does try to select gear as per attached video

I’m thinking maybe the pump not building enough pressure however leading up to this, gear changes have been perfect, not slowing down or any spurious stuff

maybe the gearbox gear selector is just out of position ? Tried the battery disconnect to “reset“ to no avail

Stumped ! Anyone seen this before ?

Video; first pump actuation door open, second ignition on, third after 3-4 selection attempts by actuator

Now thinking maybe one of the solenoids could be culprit ?

At a guess I’d say something wrong with the actuator.
In my experience the pumps either work or they don’t.
But needs proper diagnostic before you go any further unfortunately.
Odd there’s no CC failure on the dash.
Keep the updates coming

Are you hearing any movement of the clutch, any clocks or repeat engagement of the thrust bearing?

Thanks Gp79 see if I can find someone/where with diagnostic tool and Safrane will have a listen for the clutch actuation tomorrow, took the video with the engine not running, might leave the battery disconnected over night too as only waited 30 sec before reselecting back on.

Yes a longer battery reset can’t do any harm.
Where are you located? Doesn’t look like UK as there underside of your car looks in good order!
Might be worth buying some suitable diagnostics, it’s on my shopping list

Does it go clunk, clunk........clunk, clunk.....clunk, clunk when you try and select 1st?

That will be collapsed clutch tangs on the clutch cover, new clutch I am afraid.

Your pump sounds very healthy.

That's what I was thinking too Matt.

Geez I hope it’s not collapsed clutch tangs, I replaced the clutch 12,000km ago, from large UK parts supplier, Valeo clutch, new flywheel, F1 sensor and put the Hill Engineering release bearing in too, been perfect. The one I removed had the 2 “tangs” on side and so did the Valeo one I put in, hope these “newer” clutches less prone to failure, guessing my cars 3rd clutch at 75Km

I’d imagine there’s more noise at point of failure if clutch tangs go or centre fingers on release bearing, I didn’t hear a thing 3rd to N

I’m in Australia but the car I brought back with me from HKG about 18th tha ago.

I’ll get someone with a Launch X431 to scan the gearbox TCU

Also will measure resistance of clutch solenoid, and the other selection/engagement solenoids pending scan info

So still in denial re clutch, not looking forward to that job again lol

Read the clutch values/closed position, one should be 19mm and the other 23/24mm anything wildly off this means the bearing has gone through the tangs.

Also check the PIS is still reading 4.5-5.5mm

Thanks Conaero, also that clunk sound was that up front at the clutch or at the rear gear selector ? I don’t hear anything at the clutch, just the rear actuator trying to select 1st gear
I’ve ordered a borescope camera so might be able to check the clutch fingers/tangs later this week, prob time for x431 too

The clunk, clunk will be at the back from the actuator movement failing because the clutch can’t separate correctly.

Not saying this is your fault, I cant tell from your video but that is a very common failure.

It’s difficult to diagnose without seeing the car.

For what is worth visual inspection with borescope camera of the pressure plate fingers all look normal, nothing obvious, so Launch X431 scan next

So I ran the Launch X431 and have below error codes;
P1756 (SV for uneven gear engagement)
P1757 (SV for even gear engagement)

P1757 (SV for even gear engagement)

You would get those codes if the system isnt producing enough pressure to change gear.

If you have access to the launch read the live data for the pressure of the F1 pump.

Just as another thought is your t bar reverse lever working as it should or is it loose and waggly ?

If its loose the car may not be able to tell which gear it is in between reverse and 1st and trip the system up.

On the face of it the clutch is ok. So check the T bar lever and read the live data for pump pressure and go from there.

See below list, odd it comes up with 2 solenoids open circuit / short circuit.

Be worth checking the wiring on the solenoids, main harness from gearbox to body and the TCU etc

G’day spkennyuk,

I just had a look the reverse T handle seems to working ok and system hydraulic pressure between 40-48 Bar. I was reading the min pump times engine off (2min) and running (1 min) and my pump cycles just over half those times but as pressure ok should still be able to select gear? maybe there’s some air in the actuator, read sometimes one of the 3 bleed screws on actuator can loosen enough to allow air into system without any noticeable fluid leak.

Have you considered taking it to a specialist to get it sorted?

This cambiocorsa transmission is complex with multiple dependencies on different parameters and electronics.

Hardly anything within the scope of DiY I would have thought. After some of the troubleshooting journey, so often the car ends up at a specialist.
