Boot Not Latching

Probably covered a million times but I can only find threads about relays and broken wires.

Sometimes my boot wont latch properly when closing, the car then doesnt know the boot is closed so you need to open with the key etc - The boot is locked, but the electonic wurr didnt occur and the car thinks its open (wont centrally lock etc)

Is the plunger to the right of the book lid-latch mech significant in telling the car the boot is closed ? Only reason I ask is my car has a couple of washers under this plastic grommet which suggests its had some 'adjustment' previously

That’s correct, done it many times, pack out the wear and then the boot latches, too many and it won’t. You need diagnostics to cycle it usually fixed it, if not, new mech at about £160 plus vat. Simple change.

Yes, if the boot when electronic opened, goes up then straight shut again, pack with washers or get a new plunger, they go weak

Thank you as always, appreciate your time & expertise

What if boot opens electronically, then on closing the electronics dont whiz and the car thinks its open (but its actually closed and you need the key to open it, wont do it on the button or fob) ?

For the boot release spring (when the boot lock is re-grabbing on opening, to make it 'eject' a bit more forcefully) people pack out the washer on the spring on the pad, or (easier) just stick a raised pad (such as the one for furniture legs) on the pad to the right of the latch.

But I don't think there is any sensor on the pad or the spring, to know if the boot is shut.

When my boot seemed not to know it was shut, someone with a scanner (dealer) reset it somehow. I suppose there might be a clever lock/unlock sequence that also does it.

OK So this has sorted itself out on my car. :banghead1:

I took the boot lining out and tested the continuity from the plug on the left hand side of the boot (behind the trim) to the plug at the boot solenoid. I swore at it, took some fuses out and checked them again (engine bay, drivers dash, boot) - I then plugged everything back together and now the solenoid is working. Maybe it just wanted some quality time with me.

It still doesnt fire the soft close if you launch the boot down in anger but I've found another technique which is working consistently. You lower the boot down slowly and wait for the catch to strike, then push down softly and the electronic mech fires.

All is well in Boot land.
