Sat waiting for a meeting for the last half an hour in a carpark close to a dual carriageway , and never really took much notice at the amount of Black cars there are against other colours , i can just about remember when i was very young that the vast majority of cars were mostly black, here in the this carpark 23 of the 34 cars are black and atleast half the cars passing me on the road are black .... whats going on in general , are manufacturers losing there flair and playing it safe , thought the days of Henry Ford were over , you can have any colour you like sir providing its black , safe colour i know and it looks stunning when clean but 40% of new cars on the road being black says .....what even most masser Geetees are black

It does indeed go through phases. I remember when it seemed like three-quarters of the cars on the road were red.

What is noticeable is how the fashions have become international. When most of the UK registered cars were red it was remarkable that car parks in France were full of metallic grey, beige, silver, gold, cream, white, ivory etc. When you saw a red car you knew instantly it was British before glancing at the number plate. That demarcation doesn't exist anymore.

The colour choices are mostly drab though.
Shades of grey/silver/blue etc.
My everyday hack is black actually, but if the choice was there I would rather have a bright colour.
Quite happy to have a yellow, electric blue, candy apple red etc!

Look at an Audi showroom; black white and occasional silver. Stoke Audi was like a scene from Schindlers list; a single red car in a sea of black and white. Lacking imagination.

I will be selling my XJR soon, that's in I think Cardinal Red (Maroon) and it looks stunning IMO, far better than the average mundane colours.

We sell VWs

As a volume seller, u choose fast moving colours (as holding costs are a factor) to fit in with mainstream demand.

Key colours are blk/silver/white for stock buys
Brights are mainly for customer factory orders with the occasional one to provide showroom highlight

That's the problem. A lot of people are not buying the colour they want, they are buying the colour they think the next bloke wants. Hence the 'safe' colour. Life is too short, Buy the car you want, take the hit when you sell it and move onto the next car that you want.
