ah hah , only £15 plus the vat , but £5/600 labour worth having your clutch done at the same time , spiggot bearings are notorious for squealing on take off in 1st and 2nd , and not too detrimental to leave for a while , not known one to break or crumble as yet just noisy

That's sucky news mate, get it sorted and enjoy the car again. With the way you drive, I think the poor bugger has done well :)

Check with Maserati. Apparently a stronger spigott bearing was manufactured by Maserati towards the end of the 4200 era and less likely to give problems...........definately worth putting in a new clutch at the same time

Prices are on the up Nana. The bell-house and spigot bearings aren't too bad at about £45.00 for the pair, but the clutch is coming in at around £685.00. These are before VAT. Hopefully your release bearings are okay, but if not then that's another 300 notes. Add about £550.00 for (indi) labour and pray your flywheel is okay (another £275.00).

The labour I've quoted is standard clutch replacement, so if anything further is required, it could be nearer £750.00

So worst case scenario - £2,055.00 before VAT. (assumes extra labour).
If release bearings and flywheel okay - £1,280.00 before VAT. (assumes standard labour)

Loz, where are you getting that clutch price? It's a lot cheaper than Eurospares is showing?

Myles i bought all my bits off ebay , when the synter group (grey paul edinburgh) were off loading some surplus stock earlier in the year I paid total £630 for everthing thats including a new flywheel aswell , the prices i quoted were approximate around jan feb this year , and yeah we all know maserati prices vary , but not double , Marios (autoshield ) was telling a few months ago he was getting clutch plates in around the £275 mark plus vat so worth giving him a call maybe , dont always rely on Eurospares being the cheapest sometimes they are not

Cheers Loz, definitely worth further investigation as that's potentially a £400.00 saving!
