I thought I would start a dedicated thread for this as I know a few of us have projects on the go.
I'm sure we may even have a body and paint professional on the forum too.
As most of you know I'm a mechanic and not a bodywork man.
Did a fair bit back in the 80's repairing salvage at home to fund my Rallying.
Anyway yesterday I addressed the Opel Manta front bumper.
Most time spent getting rid of the last painters runs.

Lovely bit of work Phil ;)

Just to add - 'continental' style number plates always look so damned cool!

...interesting approach, panel by panel.
Many paint shops do it that way and then refit.
I'm going to be doing the shell in one go.
Each pot of paint mixed exactly the same so the colour match will be perfect.
This is a new art to me and have watched loads on YouTube.

It depends on the substrate material and to some extent, the type of paint ( metallic etc ) that you use..
Repairs may be done this way...because it is often not a complete respray but only the panel that carries repaired damage...
Maserati painted their bumpers for the GS/4200 series cars off the car- they are plastic, metallic paint- and it shows..
A complete respray allows it to be done in way that allows consistency- some do boots and bonnets off the car but they must be carefully orientated and the paint applied to maintain the application direction, colour, gun settings and air pressures used...
It can be something of a minefield...as you say- youve seen it on you tube..!

Got the windscreens out of the Manta this morning but cracked the front one which really pîssed on my bonfire but not the end of the world.
The rear is intact complete with the supplying dealer sticker.
