A recent day out to the National Alfa day in Bicester and diversion on the home journey to Hampshire to pick up some parts left me admiring the scenery whilst broken down in the M25 roadworks at junction 10 ( not a pleasant place to break down and quite an expensive recovery ). The breakdown was due to overheating and upon inspection there is a large amount of water leaking from just above the nearside turbo, I can't see where it is coming from but it seems to be above the sleeve on the front of the tubo, has anyone else had a leak in this area ? I have a full set of Roose hoses and have fitted some but I would like to see if I have a replacement for the one that is leaking.

Presmue it will be one of these:

I remember it being horrible to replace the two rubber drain back hoses from underneath the car.... Number 18? They go with the sheer heat of the turbos I seem to recall.....or the unions or other pipework could be leaking?

I have tried looking with an endoscope but can't see anything so it's off to the garage again and another recovery truck bill, I have only had it back for 4 weeks. After 20 years I should be used to this sort of thing.

Mine went around there, a plume of steam through the nearside bonnet vent, (prior to leaving for the centenary trip.)I had it replaced by an independent. No issues from what I recall.

I remember this, a local garage re gassed my 3200 then the next day the whole thing did as exactly as you said. I simple reconnected the pipe they dislodged near the AC fillers and was good.

Hi look at joininb the aa and make sure has home start and relay, so won't need pay recovery truck

I would recommend any 3200 has these changed if they've not done so already, it's one of the most common failures I've come across, it's no biggie to sort and it's cheap preventive maintenance as it will disable the car when one fails.

Yes it used to be covered but I rarely use it now and having spent around £5000 on it in the past 18 months I foolishly thought it may actually be reliable for a while, the costs of the latest breakdown would have covered recovery membership for 4 years .

sounds like it might be the short hose between the block and turbo - the roose kit has a double bend in the pipe and about 15-20cm long. I replaced mine from under car and without removing AC compressor but its a pig of a job to do with compressor still in place. Hardest part was getting the old clip off the hose at block. I recall having to remove some of the plastic and silver intake hoses to Turbo to gain some working space. As Loz says the heat perishes the pipe. Good luck

Thanks, I think I'll leave it to the garage, in the meantime (they can't do it until 27th Sept) I will change the hoses under the inlet manifold and change the rear brake discs and shoes just to keep me occupied.

Did not have issues with mine in 8 years of ownership but dealers were lazy in not taking out the radiator for the cambelt change and left me with broken hoses and leaking water everywhere driving home from them!
Not happy!

You have to share a picture of what you find in the V, it was like an archeological dig on mine, years of coolant Smeg and other detritus:)

It is indeed this hose, I have got it off, well most of it, as you mentioned I am having difficulty with the 1" remaining on the outlet but perseverance (and very sore hands) is the key.

The offending hose.

Sorry to be a pest but I need a bit more assistance, I am in the process of re assembling things but have one pipe (a metal one) where I don't have a hose to fit onto it, it's not a water or oil pipe so it may well be part of the secondary air system or something similar, can anyone guide me in what should connect to this pipe ? Picture below, it's the nearside below where the airbox sits.

I have looked everywhere and cannot find anything that could connect to this pipe, does this make any sense... My car is a 2002 model and it seems that only later models had a secondary air system (hence my car being ULEZ compliant) I had a brand new engine fitted in 2008 but the engine ( from Eurospares ) may well have been pre 2002 and as such not equipped with the secondary air system, could it be that the parts fitted to the car itself are all in place, including the mystery pipe, but the parts that would have been fitted to the engine itself are not there which is why there is nothing to connect to the pipe ?

I can try and have a look when I pick mine up tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer Allan but I am now pretty certain that the engine I purchased from Eurospares, whilst being new, was a pre series 2 and as such had no secondary air components, I guess Maserati Colchester had no option other than to just leave the pipe where it was when fitting it. It was driving me mad as I had labeled everything and kept everything (even the old hoses) but had nothing to connect to this pipe.
