Arrgghh Bad week

Well what a week.

First my 3 month old focus has shown up a coolant loss that can't be explained. No problem me thinks fall back to 4200.

After 2 days of using to work and I find I have a floppy clutch pedal. Lovely.....

This morning gears showed too much resistance so I left it where it was. Clutch itself has done 36800 miles on the original so not bad, but this appear to be an issue with the bits between the pedal and the clutch itself.

Will have to get it recovered next week but you can't help thinking you have the "brown" midas touch, everything I touch turns to sh!t.

Sorry rant over

Yep it's a manual.

No loss of fluid, so it's internal (Master or slave or stick bearing as car's been standing a while). Oh well time to bite down ******* that stick and take it like a man !

Yeah at least the other one is covered by warranty, just the inconvenience.

Oh, sorry to hear that Bal. I seem to remember there's a potential issue with the manual linkage?? Might be wrong on that, but I'm sure I recall Matt posting something?

Hi Miles,

Don't think it's linkage as I can now get gears this evening. Only the biting point is now near the floor and it has almost 2" free play. But strange it did that last night when I left work, then after 20 miles I had a firm pedal again. Then this morning the old floppy symptoms returned.
Had a chat with the guys at Migliore and they will arrange pick up next week, then lets see what happens.

Sounds like hydraulic issues. Bad luck matey, but nice excuse to get the Khamsin out of hibernation?

Khamsin, apologies for the thread resurrection but I have EXACTLY the same symptoms and problem! Did you get to the bottom of it?

I'd be very interested to know.

Regards and thanks,

Kim

The slave cylinder at the pedal is a cheap plastic design. I had to change mine some years ago. Might be worth checking and it is visible from inside the car.

Ok, I'll check now. You obviously had the same issues "Any"? Was it an easy DIY job and doing so solved the problem?

Thanks in advance.

It was many years ago and I'm not so sure the symptoms were exactly the same. My clutch was engaging with the pedal rather high up (like on an old Audi) even though the clutch mechanically was like new. Of course it would be better to hear Khamsins' solution. Maybe you just have air in the system? But I was mentioning the slave cylinder as a part in the search for the problem as it did not give me a very reliable impression. It is basically a plastic tube with o-ring seals. It was possible to change at home, but it is rather tricky to get the air out of the system afterwards without "professional" pressurised bleeding equipment. Alternatively by pushing new liquid backwards from the clutch cylinder.

I had the same problem on my spyder GT a few years ago. Sometimes I would have a clutch pedal, sometimes not. It turned out to be contaminated fluid in the clutch circuit. I had it all flushed and bled, and all sorts of **** came out. I had feared I would need a new cylinder or seal of some sort but once the system was flushed and clean it all worked fine (and has done ever since!)
