True story - 3 people in my team had all the virus symptoms (fever, difficulty breathing, muscle aches etc...) and called 111. They were asked their age first thing - and each being in their late 20s / early 30s - they were told to self isolate and call back if it got worse and needed hospitalisation.
They weren’t asked for any personal information or anything that would enable identification. A few of my friends have also confirmed similar stories.
How the **** can we trust official reported figures?? Without falling into a case of conspiracy theory - are they just trying to artificially fudge numbers to calm people down and make themselves look better than they are??
I am disgusted!

Just a heads up The Ministry of Defence have been told to be on standby for complete UK lockdown as of Thursday evening at 6pm... No one is to leave their home's unless you work in Front Line Retail or the NHS...

I heard this directly from my neighbour Trigger who is best friends with a guy called Boycey. Boycey knows a guy named Del who drinks down the pub with his uncle Albert. Albert was in the Navy during the war so knows his stuff.

Please pass it on.
He was only a few days out.

What is essential work??
Loads aren't working from home, because they can't, but what defines essential?
Yup, more confusion, I read that as it's essential for me to travel because it's impossible for me to work from home, not that my work had to be essential.

Wondering same...
For me to get to work.....it’s essential that I travel.......
I’m going to go in and let them make the decision.
I’m the only person that does one element of our job, but it’s only when we have shutdown events, we started one today.....

I think he has deliberately left it loosely termed specifically to see whether Joe publc will act with decorum and common sense , i do believe and is yet to be seen that leaving it a little bit later has given us all the chance to prepare and stock up , for businesses to get their **** together to cope as best they can, meanwhile the military is getting prepared for their roles , because as sure as eggs is eggs some dickheads will not conform and then is when we will have total lock down , we can all argue whether its correct or incorrect timing , only time will tell ...................... i fully support his thinking but it was always going to be a tough call ...... god help us all

It’s all a joke. 111 operators are not medically trained in any way and have little guidance. Don’t believe MarkMas. But I can tell you one thing- it’s bought out the best in front line staff.
Typical Boris as Clear as Mud.
So many people not knowing if their job is essential or not.
Needs some definite points made.
I think people need to take some responsibility in decision making- he can’t list Every job. I think it would be mainly self evident don’t you think?

So when the virus spreads through our place and we are non essential workers , who do I take to court? Putting a whole workforce at risk through neglect.

They aren’t trying to fudge the figures they’re trying to get things done as quickly as possible. My Ms niece works for 111 they have a script and yes/no questions it’s a very simple “triage” without any real medical knowledge, she has come home in tears the last few days due to the abuse.

If you’re unsure whether it is essential you travel to work then chances are it isn’t.

One things for sure....I’ll be fit as fook if I can go out cycling everyday... :)
As I said, work can decide tomorrow, I can’t really work from home, and when I do Completions in S/D events, it’s basically up to me to collate all the evidence to confirm all works are complete and documented and it’s safe from that POV to re start the plant.
I really don’t mind a couple of weeks/months off, but would volunteer to drive a truck or something else.

I think it is self evident, but it is down to employers to decide and tell their workers.
Even in the food industry is it essential to be making cans of pop, or Mars bars? Of course not. Direction needed!

You have had the opportunity to close down for the last few days , my missus company employs several thousand in building , maintenence and has ove 5000 properties mainly residential and some comercial gyms etc , if they can make a decision to shut then so can other non essential entities , its not rocket science to put safety first .............you just have to have the balls to call it

I second this type of experience having had symptoms myself. Spoke 111 on 3 occasions re Covid. You are very much not talking to a doctor. (And you’re only calling them because you cannot speak to a doctor....) No analysis of what you are telling them at all. They may as well just read you pages from the NHS website. They sound like students doing holiday call centre work.
They are taking no data and appear to be logging nothing.
Frightening, the decisions they are asking people, and their employers, to take fir themselves

I agree with IainW, it’s self evident. I expect our non-essential engineering teams will stay at home. We have essential engineers supporting national infrastructure. I expect they will continue. We are also doing work getting a mothballed 999 centre back into action, that will continue regardless.
