Forgive the nationalistic stereotyping:

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent virus threat and have therefore raised their threat level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, level may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit Cross.”

The English have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out.

The virus has been re-categorized from “Tiresome” to “A Bloody Nuisance.” The last time the British issued a “Bloody Nuisance” warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from “****** Off” to “Let's Get the *******.” They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its alert level from “Run” to “Hide.” The only two higher levels in France are “Collaborate” and “Surrender.” The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.

Italy has increased the alert level from “Shout Loudly and Excitedly” to “Elaborate Military Posturing.” Two more levels remain: “Ineffective Combat Operations” and “Change Sides.”

The Germans have increased their alert state from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs.” They also have two higher levels: “Invade a Neighbour” and “Lose.”

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

Australia, meanwhile, has raised its alert level from “No worries” to “She'll be alright, Mate.” Two more escalation levels remain: “Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!” and “The barbie is cancelled.” So far, no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level.

The Russians have said “Its not us”

Not sure if true but it does make you wonder.

Looks like ignorant stupid ******* ********. I speak with people in northern Italy every working day and not one had said anything remotely like this.

Still, if it plays well to a popular public perception of everything we're told being a lie, then perhaps this tweet is in good company.

I was just sent a video by my father in law which was made supposedly by a medical expert which tells me I need to shove a hair dryer up my nose so it kills the coronavirus that is living in my nostrils/sinuses...O....K then...

Next thing the NHS will have an influx of patients with burnt faces...

As both my partner and I are two of the many thousands who will be providing front line services to all, we will therefore be out and exposed to far greater risks and will be expected by the like of you to carry on and serve regardless.

So no I will not be cowering in self imposed quarantine or being told to stay at home.

Unless you have a self contained bunker (nuclear shelter) with fuel, filters, food, water and health provision you will be exposed no matter how long you stay in your home.
“The like of you”?
I don’t expect you to do anything, I’ve already said I think this is the equivalent (medical staff wise) of going “over the top”.
I think what’s coming to the Uk is horrific and the medical workers will be fully exposed to the consequences. I think their bravery and potentially self sacrifice is truly extraordinary.

That’s not my industry and I know there are “oaths” and things involved. I’ve also said for the money some are paid, I wouldn’t make that potential sacrifice.

I won’t be cowering at home. I’ll be trying to carry on life within the confines of it with our daughter in as fruitful a way as possible and will try not to add us to the ever increasing list of those who require medical assistance for as long as possible.

I wish you and your family well and lots of luck for what’s on it’s way.

So Iain how on earth can something like this come about if its like nothing we have seen before? Could it have been genetically engineered?
There are lots of conspiracy theories flying around. There is always a chance it’s been engineered but there are theorists blaming China, Russia and the USA! Nature is a strange thing. For those comparing it to SARS. Did that affect anyone you know? This willl.

From day 1 I’ve been in the “we’re not being told the truth camp”.
Still firmly there.

I understand this isn’t the same as SARS. But what happened to SARS did the population develop a level of immunity that limited its spread or something else?

Bugger, that method of survival is not open to me. Chucked mine out years ago.
