I am sorry to hear this. I am grateful for their efforts.

Those who compare this to the deaths from seasonal flu should remember that NHS staff do not usually end up dying from treating and caring for their patients.

Yes they do but mostly they are not news so you dont get to hear about them, but particuarly in Safranes environment it happens with extreme regularity all over the country, shall we think back a short while ago to MRSA

Peter sorry to hear about the staff members, I see another health worker has officially been named as succumbing to Covid-19. 36 year old with no apparent underlying health issues.

I do and I have huge respect for those in the healthcare front line. My brother in law is a 30+ years NHS A&E surgeon at a very large regional hospital. He really is in the front line of this, and I know some of what he and his team are having to cope with in order to save lives
Nice one, RWC.

We really have to keep this in perspective , and what we know as facts ......................not what the media are having us to believe as its mostly been sensationalised and just possibly manipulated , we in my view shouldnt medically at this stage be overwhelmed, maybe with the exception of London hospitals , Im a novice at this but used to dealing with in the field instantaneous life threatning decisions , but just from my simple reckoning we must have somewhere in the region of 150 to 250 hospitals in the British isles ( well forget scotland they dont want to be with us ) on the other hand maybe with the price of oil at just $15 a barell they could be wise and have a re-think , so i'll include them in this equation

I have no idea what the normal death rate in ITU is , but i will be really surprised if each hospital cant cope with 4 people a day .................which in my book adds up to around a 1000 a day potential deaths ........... my logic says we are over hyping this ...................... from what i can make out ................my own personal GP surgery and MK A & E says for 3-4 weeks now they have never been so quiet , on the other hand kaz's daughter works in a pharmacy and has never been so busy .

Am i missing something , or are we creating a MASH like scenario for something which in terms of numbers is going to affect the entire future of our younger generation......................................lets not get into the conspiracy theories yet , though many may have some creedence .

Shoot me down guys please , alter my thinking

Don’t worry, not one to let an opportunity go to waste, while she was down there on all fours I asked for ‘toad in the hole” instead.

Actually that my favourite of all time , meat and atleast two veg ( yes Greta fecking meat ) followed closely by shepherds pie , now that would make a nasty looking mess all over that amtico floor

Doggy style is best, means you can watch telly at the same time, rest your pint on her back and also it's the most demeaning position for the woman. Nice!

What office based public servants? Are you referring to me? Who said I was office based? Another incorrect judgement on your part. You know next to nothing about me and my life and career beyond I like cars (duh) red wine and I have a tractor. Whereas we know a lot about your education and career because you like to feel superior to the rest of us.
I don’t feel superior. I am the first in my family to go to university - and I respect the work and efforts my parents and many others do to sacrifice and be good to others. I am by far the richest on here- I don’t respect money or education.- I respect people.

@iainw @Silvercat I have a contact in Vietnam who has 15m face masks of the following type.

Manufacturer: 3M
Type: N95 type 1860

And also a lorry plane load of hand sanitiser.

Are these of any use to the NHS?
Yes very much so. New guidelines support the use of N95/ FP2. Could you please PM me a contact? I have just ordered 200,000 from Israel but they won’t last long. China are making it hard to get them airfreighted out... Thanks a lot- I appreciate it

I have to say MarkMas, if I every have the need of a ventilator and all the NHS can provide is a team of one nurse with a whole lot of recently trained inexperienced others to cover lots of ventilators on a ward in say the Excel....................I'll take anything I can get to hopefully survive.
I can’t answer question as I would like, but the sad fact is most people won’t have a choice if the curve follows other Western European Countries. NB: Ventilators would need at least one ITU trained doctor to supervise and then a team with a range of skills. Significant numbers of staff will be volunteers - which is absolutely incredible. Between the Engineers and construction workers setting it up and the volunteers supporting the front line workers- it’s an incredible result of human spirit

Presumably he does have a lot of stress right now, and I'm all for a bit of venting, even intemperate venting. I do get that. But, if you say, " I am a colour expert and black is white." and then later say, "Look I clearly said 'grey is gray', and you are a spoilt argumentative child for disagreeing with me", I'm gonna have to react. I should probably not. but I will.

(and thank you for your kind comment)
Mark- it’s difficult to explain but I do understand how some of the concepts seem to be contradictory and evolving. Even senior Anesthetist’s are changing their tune. The facts are we have done from ‘best care’ to ‘possible care’ to ‘bad scenario’ to ‘war situation’ in not long. There seem to be various strategies proposed to deal with it. But at the moment it seems to be - try and get as many ventilators as we can and worry about staffing later. I suppose they need to make the illusion of trying their best and ventilators sound sexy and they can rally industry etc. The staffing levels will be like something we have never seen before! It will be different next week so I will go back to talking about cars. What on Earth is going to happen...
