He didn't rinse Piers Morgan, it was the other way round.
Jason Leitch is part of the problem, complacency like that will kill people. NO DOUBT.
Oh, and yes, I agree that the absence of a total lock-down will indeed kill people, all the forecasts show this, as a partial lock-down will expose some people to infection and some of those will die. So the armchair pundits use their 'common sense' to say, "We must have a lock down now, and this
complacency is obviously bad. And they are egged on by people like Piers who make their living by spinning up that sort of outrage. And some expert epidemiologists also agree with them.
BUT that is not the point. The point is that other reputable forecasts show that a total lock-down briefly contains the infection rate, and then, because it is always imperfect, this period of respite is followed by a more catastrophic outbreak. There is also a balance to be struck between action and preparation time, and a judgement to be made about the pace of treatment and vaccine developments. So there are credible reasons to have a partial lock-down strategy, and this is not stupidity or complacency, but a plan.
So the 'do everything now' people would definitely save a few lives next month because its 'obvious' what to do, and yet could end up killing many more people over the months to come, as the second wave sweeps over a slightly better prepared (but also exhausted and non-compliant) nation.
I'm not saying one side of this argument is definitely right and the other is definitely wrong; I'm saying there are different opinions on what is the best approach to take, for the whole population over the medium term. I'm not aware of anybody on this forum who is appropriately qualified to make an informed judgement on this. But having NO DOUBT is not data, its just opinion. (Which everyone is entitled to have and express.)
