ANYONE EVER DONE ANY SUDDEN CAR AUCTION BUYS?!

Thought it was going possibly a little cheaper than I expected with an hour to go. So put a cheeky little bid in at the last minute.....and hey presto! Certainly not a planned one and a bit sudden. Never done that before. Expensive week!

Looks decent enough. A few little issues to deal with to lift it up a bit but seems decent value to me.

Oh **** that's an excellent buy!

Congrats!

I took my Dad to a BCA Auction when they allowed the public in as I was interested in an SLK55, it was a stunner. He gave me a speech about not getting caught up in it and stick to my budget. It went beyond my budget and he got caught up in it all and bid for me and won it and paid me the difference.

It was actually a thrill to be handed the keys for the first time and pray that it starts, then pray it drives straight, then pray it changes gear.

But it turns out it was in fantastic condition and ended up being an excellent car.

I liked the SLK55, the noise it made was excellent fun. But the gearbox was a bit too quick to change up a gear and the paddles were useless so that let the car down a lot. For the money it was excellent.

Absolutely, that's how got mine. Purchased it from across the world only after seeing it on 6 pictures

Definitely a thrill and not the smartest thing in the world, but great fun!

Good to hear it worked out all OK. Always was intrigued by the SLK55 but never pulled the trigger. Had a few SL500s and an SL60 and SL55 but never the little brother.

Does sound like fun. Did it work out OK?

This is being sold by a dealer by the look of it so hopefully any reasonable dealer won't be trying to pass off anything too horrific.

I think if it's sold by a dealer the risk will be slightly lower, but still you never know!

Luckily mine came out alright, i bought it with quite low miles though so i had quite high expectations.
Had to ship it by sea container, so i bought it in march and it only arrived last week, but all is great.

Only problem is that it has an aftermarket exhaust (without cats) on it and i need a OEM exhaust to get it registered here... That's proven to be quite difficult.

Wow, that does sound like quite a journey. If you don't mind me asking....what car is it?

This is how I got my 4200, took an educated risk, although with a much smaller sum.

£22500 or so is great for a Vantage with that mileage (depending on the usual Vantage issues!)

Adrenaline still pumping?

Good to hear a d hope you are enjoying the 4200?

There is the buyers premium on top for Bonham auction so £23585 I think all in but still a great buy I think for what looks like a decent care and starting point. New clutch which helps protect against at least one larger bill.

I don't really get too emotional or excited but it is certainly something different I wouldn't normally do or have done too much in the past. Most are fairly well researched and calculated gambles.

New clutch.. that's a big one not to worry about.

Fingers crossed subframes are OK. After that, there's not much to worry about with them I believe, bar headlight water ingress and door modules etc

Love my 4200, getting F1 pump changed today.

Well that was a short lived ownership of the Vantage. Not really think I engaged the brain fully buying both the E55K AMG Estate and the Vantage so close together. Decided that I like E55K too much and it is going to get used for work and most of the time so the Vantage realistically wasn't going to get much of a look in or much use. So decided to bite the bullet and put it up for sale.

Was bought and collected Friday by a really nice guy and he will use it a lot more so it has gone to a great home.

I'm still tempted to get something a little bit smaller, lighter and more fun focussed but not sure yet. Going to hold fire and get the Alfa and two Peugeot GTi's MOT'd, serviced and upto scratch then use those for a bit.

Not been around here much I'm afraid due to heavy workload, planning application time required and also a new garage extension/gym project. Looking forward to some quieter times!

Bought an MGB in Florida using bringatrailer.com (WARNING: very very dangerous site :) ) a couple of years back.
Lots of pictures but still a risk. Seller afterwards was also nervous as he wanted money before releasing a car, and I wanted some level of 'security' before sending a chunk of money (albeit not a fortune) to the US. Seller turned out to be an octogenarian who 'found the weather to d*mn hot to drive a convertible'. After a couple of calls, all went well and the car was and is a peach.

In the usual 'man maths logic', I of course did not sell the car - which had been the logic when bidding - and instead held on to it as it was one of the best originals I'd ever driven. Which made the SWMBO at the time not extremely amused...

@rockits, your AM V8 looked like a really nice example!

What a bargain. Great to see you in a Vantage again. Beautiful car.
