Wonderful to see that. They don’t have enough insects to feed on in Northern Europe nowadays. I think If I was flapping all the way from South Africa, I’d probably stop at Portugal, too!
Good advice there.
I think the swallows that have arrived already might be thinking they should've give it another month. Heard a cuckoo yesterday, I know they don't hang around long but their time will be even shorter unless there's a vast improvement in temperature.

I had a coal tit hit the window this morning, I went out and thought it was dead but thankfully only stunned , it's wee mate was standing next to it. Lifted it over to the hedge where it recovered, it's mate never left its side, until they both flew off. Back later collecting dog hairs for their nest

You’re lucky it wasn’t a fat pigeon hitting the window. This is my parents’ empty house in March.

That’s hit that hard!!
My mate had a sparrowhawk hit his double glazed back doors, I wonder if it go carried away chasing a pigeon.
We did wonder if the pidg was being chased by a sparrowhawk. But it appears to have regained 2 brain cells and flown out again through the gaping hole in the glass. I have put anti bird strike stickers on all the big windows now.
