Any One Fancy a Small Project??

Came across this on ebay and thought it might be of interest to someone looking for a rolling project.

Pros:-
Cabriolet with operating roof
Price £13,999 or lower offer
Mileage 46k
Very rare manual gear box in a cab
No Cat rating
Interior appears to be in good condition (apart from some wear to the drivers seat and bubbling steering wheel)

Cons
Dealer says 'ok' condition. To me this means in a pretty poor condition
Partial SH
Requires a new roof finish

If it was up to me (depending on inspection personal and specialist) I would 'Benny' it with the exception of retaining the 42 rear lights and putting face-lift alloys on it.

Certainly needs some exterior TLC and no info on mechanical bits but for some one handy with a spanner and a few brave pills it might be worth it if you could get the price down a bit.

I still love the Spyder proportions, long bonnet, compact interior and a bit of an ****

Production numbers for The 4200 Spyder in manual format i.e. 3 pedal guise (pre and facelift variant) were a total of 574 units for worldwide market compared to 3134 units in cambiocorsa format. Pretty car and you get the full fat experience of that four-cam 4.2 V8. Yes please!!:p

Thats not bad for a 46K mile car . £11k sold as seen . Bit of tidying and a roof . Done
I think I'd sooner pay a bit more and get some consumer rights protection rather than sign anything that said sold as seen on a 17 year old Maserati

Saw that earlier this week. Interesting but it's a £10k car. Not worth taking on for any more IMHO.

This.

In the end, you spend the same again making it really nice and you end up with a nice car with a poor history that you have to discount to sell. If you enjoy this sort of thing and expect to lose some cash on the way, fine. If you want to just have a nice car, buy a better one.

^WHS^
Needs a price drop to justify bringing up to A1 condition.

And I always wonder what else has been neglected / abused. For me, cars like this have walk away written all over them unless they are very very cheap (by which I mean £7,000).

What I expect to happen is that somebody will buy this because they want a Maserati but cant really afford one and it will either be written off or blown up in 2 years.

I think they are great looking cars...
I feel like you guys over think it sometimes...

If it is MikeX 's old motor, I cant imagine it makes much financial sense for him to be jumping out of it at this price point either....!!

How do you fix the roof?
It is not as though it is a MGB vinyl roof, or even like my Stags mohair roof, a new roof covering I would imagine would be £££

It says that the roof works so you would just need a mohair cover. There are plenty of companies out there that can make one for you if you can supply the original. It would cost about £600 + fitting.

I spent a year finding my 2007 Grigio 4200 and jumped to buy it quickly when I came across it. It was by far the best 4200 I had seen and have seen since. It cost me circa £10k more at the time than he cheapest ones. It is worth more than £10k more than the cheapest ones now, has cost less to run so has made much more sense.

Sometimes it makes more sense to spend more. Not always but sometimes.

What does ‘Benny’ it mean?
BennyD is a forum member who has a 2003 4200 cab. He has replaced all the Classico parts for GS parts and looks great. He has also replaced the 4200 back lights with 3200 boomerangs which is a fantastic job but personally I would stick with the original Honda Prelude ones.
