Another Bearings / Battery / Christmas Tree Thread

After sitting for longer than normal over winter I've had the ABS/Suspension/EPB lights come on a few times, sometimes 45 minutes into a journey, sometimes 5 minutes. Mostly the car drives fine (once it was stuttering but that hasn't happened since and didn't seem to store any additional codes so ignoring that one..) and turning off or resetting with an autel dongle fixes things, generally I just get home and leave it.

First option was the battery, ctek trickle has given me the following:
Straight after disconnecting the charger 13-13.2v
2 days later (not driven) 12.4-12.6v, then 14.5v (13.2-14.2v bouncing about) on startup
This time I did the regen cycle or whatever it's called for a few days, 13.1v again after disconnecting, 14.3v startup and after an hour's drive 13.6v parked up in garage with engine on.
The multimeter is at least the right way round because I've not had any -ve readings (Catman school of electricity part timer)

If I've read the comments right with Eb's car the battery seems ok, depending how much it drops this time after the regen and a couple of days idle.

It's in the car so not sure what model but I have the cheap Autel scanner, it's given me these codes:

6th Feb think it was a battery wobbly too because it was everything having a moment, I think it had sat a while before that one. This morning's drive of an hour and nothing came up, car started and drove fine, no lights except MC Shift mode.. Normally the car is used at least once a week for commute of 45-60min with very little traffic, finding a flat parking space proved rather difficult the first time I left it without the EPB on!

If it is the bearings sensor about to go / gone will it eventually leave me stranded? So I should just get it fixed now rather than keep ignoring? There's too many dates over the summer that it'll spoil if the car is off the road!

I'm sure when I have had battery issues before it's been other warning lights / all the warning lights so does the consistency of those few codes mean it is something else ie. bearings?

Battery is in warranty but was bought online so if I have to return is more hassle (will know for next time!), of course if it's goosed, it's goosed and will fail their tests when returned, I'd just rather be more-sure if possible.

Thanks team

A Good local to you will be able to drop test the battery and confirm if it's okay or not.
Support local if you can.

The shame with the online battery suppliers is that they have a low bar for a battery to be bad. So you might return it and still not get a result.

But having said that, with those numbers, it seems to be a bearing. But you’ll probably have to drive it a bit more to make it reveal itself.

Car is back to being used every 3-4 days and since the regen all seems well. Making sure every journey includes some Italian tune up time just in case ;)

If the abs sensor in the bearing has gone, you won't be stranded. You'll just get a very annoying ping ping from the car every time it decides something is not right. This will go on for a few minutes and then shut up, leaving the Christmas tree lights on the dash.
Of course, you'll not have ABS or MSP so don't try and outrun me down a mountain with those lights on :)

Unfortunately I've had the error once again after the new battery which was disappointing. Only once so far. What you want is that you get the error every time you start up to make it conclusive. Otherwise it's hope for the best, stick a grand away for a new bearing and know that probably you're going to do it.

Basically you're now playing chicken (like me) to see if it's going to get worse or seemingly disappear.

I've had 4 bearings in 10 years.... OSF x 2, NSF, NSR. Only the OSR hasn't been changed in my ownership

At least with this part it’s chicken with money rather than being stranded.

I’ll add it to the funds awaiting the inevitable clutch change! Plenty of life last time it was checked but it is the original…

We have an old TT that plays this game too, the roof stops working for a few months and just as we decide to give in and change a motor it sorts itself out so we win this round. Likewise the passenger door handle does this every few weeks but I’ve broken enough crappy plastic clips on that car for now.. I’m convinced it’s the Italian tune ups breathing life into it.. swmbo less so!

You've gotta ask yourself a question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?

Maybe they've got better. You could take one for the team.....!

I've changed a front and a rear on my GT in the last year.
The front is a pretty straight forward job, so I took a punt on a pattern part as if it failed early, I'd happily change it again without too much hassle. Not a £100 part straight from China, but a 350ish from the UK (probably from China anyway but got some comeback for 12 mths) it seemed decent quality.

I've done several thousand miles on it now without issue.

The rear is much more hassle due to the drive shaft and stupid cable retaining P-clip, so I went with OEM, as I don't want to do that one any more frequently than needed.

Link for the pattern £350 ish part?

I'm going to have to do one of my front's to have any hope of passing the MOT next month and with the demise of SI I guess I will be doing it myself :(

Was going to try one of the Chinese and see how long it lasts!

These no doubt all come from the same place but at least this one is UK sold with a 2yr Warranty (be interesting to see how that pans out)
