It's interesting that SOME OF OUR politicians grew some balls and stopped involving us in other peoples messes!!!

Well........we go on about all these things....the very governments who bleat about this happening are the world armourers......whether Far Eastern, Soviet, USA, European......the "suppliers" of the means of mass destruction of humanity.......you reap what you sow, not interested in the witterings of individual politicians.......all the same to me

The Guardian does not censor. Hence why that quote is repeated in full. Even the Telegraph has the odd swear word!

On the point of Syria I am firmly of the view of NOT getting involved. Here's my view...

There is no evidence that the Syrian Government are committing any worse atrocities than the Rebels.

The Syrian Government is actually modern, liberal, and importantly secular. It accepts all faiths. It might be a authoritarian, but it is firmly secular.
A secular government is extremely important in a part of the world where the majority religion, Islam, is divided between two sides who do not see eye to eye.

I have been to Syria before all this kicked off. I went to restaurants and bought and drank wine openly. The girls in our group dressed in normal clothes they'd wear here in the UK. Every major town/city had a Christian quarter that had large outdoor terraces where people happily drank, and other people from other religions happily strolled through or, guess what, drank as well! The Syrian people were friendly and proud.

The Rebels are not secular. The Rebels contain extremist Muslims.

The Rebels are currently forcing Christians and Jews to convert to Islam. They are beating people and forcing them to change their religion. Christians and Jews have fled Syria.

Pushing the Syrian Government to become a democracy is one thing. But replacing a secular goverment with a religious government seems incredibly backwards.

The US want to put the extremist Rebel's in power. Syria will become a exactly what Afghanistan was when it was ruled by the Taliban - a place of no freedoms.

I have little doubt that the US are just after a pipeline and have no concerns about Syria or it's people.

Just my two pence!!

+1 on that point.

Someone on Radio 4 this morning made the point rather well "if I see two chaps having a fight I don't walk over and knife one of them. I try to separate them".
