Alternatives to Vodafone tracker?

One year of GT ownership and all is well (touch wood). However the renewal for the tracker has come through, and it’s almost a third more than I paid last year. Which prompts a thought- is there a reasonably priced alternative that any one is using, and can recommend? Sadly it’s a requirement for my insurance policy, otherwise I’d happily switch it off.

Always found the cost of the tracker sub higher than the incremental insurance (which is sometimes zero) so wouldn’t bother. Only matters if you wanted it back after it was nicked which I’m not sure I would!

At a guess from my distant memory, I‘m paying £10 a month for the tracker on my Strad. Is that good or bad? Can’t remember who it’s with, but can quickly check with my office in the morning.

Try Rewire Security of Bristol. Self fixing DB2 is £6.99 per month, bought on Internet for £34. I have all my Maserati's with them. Previously was with Vodaphone @£300 per year. Changed from Tracker which was similar( it was original installation on my 4200 )having a reported current drain attributed to it. Turned to be latch in drivers door not working properly.

Won’t work if the vehicle is still stuck in a container at the docks with no active mobile phones around.

The usual gps vodaphone and the like trackers wont work unless the car is outside. If its in a container or metal roofed building the standard fit trackers wont work or unlikely to work.

If you really want cheap and cheerful. Old mobile phone hard wired to the battery / electrics. If its in the open gps and mobile phone masts can see it. If its under cover and beyond gps then mobile signal may still be able to see it. Neither systems are fool proof and if its already in a container on a ship its too late by then anyway.

eBay will sell many items simpler and similar for pennies :)

Yes I appreciate GPS can be blocked by the container but the point I was making was more around the Apple Air thingy that needs other mobile phone ]s being used around it in order for it to work (I think) so swap “container at the port” to “ farm building in the country”.

In any event the point hasmbeen made that any tracker in this instance would need to be insurance approached

Well that sort of depends on what you want it for:

Reduction (ha!) of premiums: Absolutely
Wanting to know your car is moving without your permission and potential ability to find it / tell Uncle William where it might be: Not so much

From what I read stolen cars get parked up to see if there's a tracker fitted , the apple thing would work while it was being transported , good uck with getting the police to go and look for it though
