Was looking forward to seeing a few Brera 3.2's there after my drive last week with a view to maybe purchase one but now I've found that the road tax is £480 a year that's ain't going to happen...Rip off....

It's not that bad when you consider it's just £40 a month.... Sky is more expensive.

£40 a month.....Still couldn't justify that buddy....NOt with an old house and two young boys.....Every penny counts these days......PLus you know I have a thing about giving the extra to the tax man anyway...But I get where you are coming from........

Ouch!!! How much!!

i know Nick.....Stupid money for what it is.....If it was a better car than the M3 then I could almost see reason but it isn't......Or even if it was a Maserati .......

Or sort of understand why the 1700 engine is in the 4C now and why lots are going this way for their performance cars....

Hehehehe......So would I Dave.....My friend has a BMW 320D as a company car and he doesn't pay tax because of the echo button thingy.....made as he never uses the bloody button.......

That's the way the market is going. The current road tax/fuel price double-whammy on large-engined cars make them unviable for many. The 3.2 litre Brera doesn't offer too much bang for your buck. I'd have the original concept car though!

Shame really, the Brera prototipo was fantasic...the standard 3.2 though wouldn't hold a light to 25 year old Vauxhall Lotus Carlton! and many Maser's

Nice piece in the Telegraph Motoring this weekend

I agree with you there MS.....Must say though I did drive one last week and as an everyday car I liked it.....I wasn't fast but not slow either..Sure footed is maybe the word...The 4 wheel drive makes it heavy but it is rear bias so not as bad as I thought it would be and it's such a lovely car to be in and look at still even though the concept was better.........but never worth £480 tax a year....

Come on Andy is only 66p per day over the normal tax bracket....my Cappuccino cost three times that and I never drank the stuff until I went to work in London. I I went back to water I would over the whole car tax and still have money left over for a nice pair of brogues.

Pete, its tempting but when my M3 is faster, handles better and still looks great ... plus tax is £280 it's a hard one to swallow....

What at makes it better...As you know had many Alfas but the M3 has as much flair and soul as any of them......I love Alfa but the trouble with them is they have promised soooo much over the years and never really delivered....Not since the heyday with the Sud and GTA have they really been competative....Even the 4C is a missed opportunity as it would take very little to make it a class leader from what I have read but once again Alfa falls short.........Not sure how long they can keep this up.......They need a car that will be a credible alternative to the major players and I can only hope that adding rear wheel drive will give the new cars a fighting chance...

i know nick.......i suppose i am getting really frustrated with our beloved Alfa......the latest range is just not cutting it although they look great they have lost some of the ,magic that is Alfa and without that I can not forgive their shortcomings....as that was the one thing that made you over look them....I would love to see the headline when the rear drive cars come out that Alfa offers a credible alternative to BMW....

Trouble is Andy theyv'e got no money for development,as no one's buying Alfas in Europe any longer, makes you wonder how long Fiat will put up with them making no profit!
