Alarm Settings

Hello, I've been wondering for a while how to connect, manipulate, or activate my car alarm.
At the top of the rearview mirror, I have two buttons. I press them and they flash yellow rapidly and then turn off.

The problem is that I can't activate the alarm. When I lock and unlock the vehicle, the hazard lights come on, which means the alarm is active, or when I open the car, it deactivates.

Then, when the car is starting, when I open the driver's door and have it open, it beeps loudly and won't stop until I close the door. How do I disable this option?

In the car's dashboard, is there an option to access an internal submenu for more vehicle options?

Thanks, Jon

The two buttons above the rear view mirror are to deactivate the interior alarm sensor and the movement sensor (useful on a ferry) Press one or both and then close the door and activate the alarm on the key as usual.

Pretty sure that's not the (anti-theft) alarm. More the 'Don't leave your keys in the ignition' alarm and can't be turned off.

The problem is that I can't activate the alarm

Do you mean you can't *arm* the alarm, or do you mean you can't trigger the alarm and siren and so on?

If the former, what makes you think it's not arming? Doors locking and hazards flashing are normal signs that it's working.

If it's the latter, try this: Sit in the car, shut the door. Press the lock button on your fob to lock and arm the alarm. Wait a minute or so for everything to arm and then bounce up and down energetically. That should set it off.

Hi, thanks for the replies, but when I closed the doors of my car, the warning lights never came on to let me know the alarm was triggered. That's why I'm asking, how can I get the yellow lights to flash when I lock and unlock the car?

Thank you.

So you shut the door and press the button *on the fob* you get no flash of the hazards and no beep from the siren.

Do the doors lock?

Hello, good morning. Exactly. The warning lights don't come on, and the doors lock when I press the key.

And no beep?

So I'd have to say this is *unlikely* to be a config. There is a trick to turn the beeps off, but it's hidden. Do you get a red LED showing it's armed?

Hello, there is no beep, no turn signal light when closing or opening. The door remains a flashing red light when closing, and when opened, it turns green.

OK if the lights go red, that would indicate it is arming.

So lock yourself in the car, so the LEDs are red. Wait a couple of minutes. Bounce up and down.

The siren *should* go off with the hazards.

If the hazards go off, but there's no siren, your siren is bust.
If you get siren and hazards, someone's used the secret setting.
If you get neither I suspect your alarm is busted

As Catman rightly said, someone has most likely used the secret menu and turned the beeping off. The GT never flashed its turn signal lights when arming or disarming.

Hello, good morning. How do I access the secret menu and deactivate the beep? So when the alarm is activated, the yellow emergency lights don't flash, and when it's deactivated, the emergency lights don't flash either. I think that's what I understand.
So, what are the interior buttons above the rearview mirror for?

- I’m guessing you mean ACTIVATE the beeps? @conaero should be able to explain.
- When the alarm is activated and doors locked, the yellow emergency lights DO NOT flash. When the alarm is then deactivated, the yellow emergency lights DO NOT flash. They never did on any Granturismo as far as I know.
- If you read my post #2 I explained what the rear view mirror buttons are for.

I believe there are options in the menus for turning the lights on/off during lock and unlock. You just have to search through them and play with it. I don't remember the exact location at the moment. The menus are not self-explanitory lol. My car is set to beep and flash on lock/unlock.

On a related note, if my car sits outside in the sun (after an evening in the garage), 99% of the time the alarm will go off. I found that I have to push the 2 buttons by the mirror every time I park. The interior volumetric/pressure sensor must be very sensitive. My theory is that the heat from the sun must increase the pressure enough to set it off. Fortunately I park the car outside my office so I'm aware of any false alarms. Pushing the 2 bottons solves the problem 100% of the time...

Okay, thanks everyone for the clarification.

If you leave the windows down, when you lock the car and hold down the car lock button on the remote, will the windows go up and the car lock?

As far as I'm aware, no. I've tried on this on my MY 2013 GT Sport and it doesn't but it does on my SEAT Ibiza from 2023! Unless someone else knows better.

The instructions to change the alarm settings are in the infotainment handbook.

You need to go into vehicle settings and set to how you want it to function when armed and unarmed.

Mine is set to bleep and flash, one long when locked and 3 short when unlocked with corresponding indicator flash at the same time. It may be the other way round as I have not driven it since Sept.

If you don't have the infotainment manual you can download it off the Internet.

Well done Safrane, I had no idea you could select options like that.
