Root cause analysis on my repeatedly wet floorboard...assumed it was the condensate tube as described herein. However, it was entirely the weeps at the frame, under the wiper cladding and directly adjacent to the hinges for the hood/bonnet/coperchio/&c. Had to remove the left front wheel and the wheel well inserts to access the external drain...it was completely clogged, and apparently then backed up into the body and then into the cockpit...

My drivers side footwell is wet, and I want to hope it's this and not the heater matrix...

Symptoms of my blocked drain were all over the passenger footwell, not the drivers side, however the drain pipe is on the drivers side, which is a little bizarre.

I can't see these pictures if I'm looking at the forum via work infrastructure. OK if looking from home. Only for some posts as I can see most pics. Strangely I can often not see anything that @Guy posts regardless of how I'm browsing the forum (Work/home/mobile)

Thought I was going crazy when I looked at this this morning and saw everything perfectly, but oddly, while I can see them perfectly on my phone, my laptop shows nothing:



This is in up to date MS Edge or Brave browsers. I also checked Chrome on my other laptop and it also doesn't display, strange!

Still, I can look at my phone when at the car, so I'm happy

Blimey, one of the first threads posted on SM back in the day.

The info in my original post is not entirely correct.

It transpires, since working with Ash, the main fix needs to be done at the other end where it connects to the bottom drain of the central unit, not the exit end.

You first do need a new pipe. Once they crush, that’s it, it will always want to crush.

Then what you have to do is half the length of the central drain and trim a bit off the new pipe so it lifts the elbow up and less likely to crush.

Sounds easy...well no, quite the reverse. Cutting the bottom half off the central drain is a nightmare and getting the new pipe, jubilee clip on and cutting it straight with head twisted in the footwell and the steering wheel pushing on the back of your neck...it’s one of those jobs.

Reciprocating saw blade with tape rapped round as a handle is the way forward. Just make sure you don’t feck the cut up and get it straight or your going to be in a world of pain.

Finally got round to doing this mod on my GS - thanks.
Wasn’t actually that bad, took about an hour.
When using the AC it would mist up only when restarting after being left for an hour or so.
Basically the condensation from the evaporator not draining quickly enough as the hose was crushed, never had any leaks into the cabin though.
Sorted now, thanks for the post above, wish I had done this 10 yrs ago.


I was going to try keep the long spring through the pipe to help hold its shape but not possible as the access is so poor. Anyway seems ok without
