Awesome news Galps. I just bought a used one recently and fitted it and its still duff but I did see sparks when I plugged it in! I have sent my orginal one off last week to another company in the UK who say they charge £100 to fix but I don't have too much faith as others have said they too have tried having them reworked and failed so if it does fail I will send it off to Bosch as you did and get it done by Bosch. Thanks for sharing, these cars are becoming cheaper to run when we all share posts and information like this. I think we need a sticky thread which I am willing to do which details all of the fixes for future owners!

I would say that's good value and dealing direct with Bosch ?
They have a UK phone number on the web site can you not deal with them in the UK ?

Hi to everyone responding here,
No there is no UK number as the rework operation is in Hungary, I would suggest contacting Timea on the email as per previous posted..
cheers

This is a great find, and is a major saving on eurospares prices, If only we could find a batch of old units to stock as spares.

Well Done Galps

Whoever said that I'm selling reconditioned ones is inaccurate. Mine are brand new, from Bosch in Germany.

My general rules on ABS problems after dealing with hundreds of 3200GTs:

  • If it looks like a rear sensor, it's a rear phonic ring. The sensors rarely fail.
  • If it looks like a valve in the valve block, it's the ECU. Valve blocks rarely fail.
  • If it looks like the ECU, it's the ECU
  • ECUs can't be repaired under any circumstances, used or new is the only option that will last any length of time.
  • Replacing the ECU is harder than it looks - there is a list of precautions and instructions that come with the new ECUs that you have to follow to the letter or static shock fries the ECU. As one of the posters reported.
I have two brand new ABS ECUs left from the batch I had made.

Maybe we need to see how long the reconditioned unit fitted to glaps car lasts?

My guess would be that Bosch in Hungary fit all new internals. At that price there is not much workshop time to diagnose, repair and test the original units.

Might even get mine fixed. For the nth time. (already replaced both rear phonic rings myself, one front abs sensor, 2nd hand ABS pump/ECU twice)

Plot thickens on this. I sent my original one off to ECUTEK a week ago and they have sent it back with No fault found. Maybe it is the fuse relay (60Amp) that has blown? Hmmmmmmmm

If your ABS / ABD light is on permanently - this usually points to the ECU. Fingers crossed for you it is a fuse or power feed.

My lights only come on when car startes to move. This means it might still be a sensor / cable issue. Further good news during the MOT, while testing fromt brakes on the rollers the ABS light stayed off. Thes leads me assume front circuit and ABS pump/ ECU are good.

As I have already replaced rear phonic rings, that only leaves ABS sensor and wiring?

You would think ECU but I have replaced it and still same issue. Also sending one off shoes no fault founds leads me to think it is something else.

Sounds like a break in the circuit somewhere, which could be a sensor, or cable..?? If the fuse checks out as OK then I would start to test each leg of the circuit to see if you can pick up on anything..!!

To me your problem points to rear phonic rings or sensor malfunction when the wheel turns, since you have done the rings they are out of the equation but just check they are pressed on far enough by looking through the sensor hole, I reckon your wiring is okay as the lights go out at key on.
Therefore could be a sensor outputting erroneous signals check out http://www.tiepie-automotive.com/en/Measurement_examples/Sensors/ABS_Sensor_Inductive
Hope this helps

I think you need to do some checks at the abs loom plug refer to the manual Brakes page 19, basically you can check all four sensors giving off 1.6 ohms 2 permanent lives 1 key on live 2 grounds 1 brake pedal switch . Page 18 describes how the ABS checks /self diagnosis at key on then at 6kmh then every 24kmh thereafter which I think helps to explain your SD2 print out.
Hope this helps

Can anyone tell me how the ABS / ASR codes are read on 2002 3200 ? The mechanic plugged into the standard diagnostics port and could see a couple of historic minor codes but there was nothing about ABS / ASR even though those lights are on. Is there a separate port for ASR / ABS diagnostics, the manual points to figure 220 showing a connection under the bonnet, if it is this can it be read with the same tool as used on the main diagnostic port.

Hi Tristan,

Welcome to the forum. I am not an old hand, but have you tried disconnecting pins 1 & 2 from the control unit, which are the right rear sensor connectors, just to see if that takes the lights off? Pins 1 & 2 are on the right hand side of the long row of pins, when the long row is on the bottom.

Cheers

Hi, ars light is back on intermittently, I've sent ecu unit off for testing and there no faults, so only other thing it can be is sensors, mainly come on at cold start so I'm assuming it run the can check and sometimes finds a problem in sensor.
Could you explain to a dummie (me ;))
How to test this with a multimeter?
I presume your test the pins from where the abs connects to the ecu?
Never use a multimeter before :/

Thanks

Thanks :)

ABS sensors are a Hall effect sensor. To test them you unplug the sensor, put a meter across the terminals, spin the wheel and check for a small voltage which fluctuates.
