AAARGH - rust

There's probably a thread elsewhere on the forum but I've noticed a small rust spot on the underside of the driver's door. :( It may be it's a bad stone chip or possibly the bottom of the door has caught on something but it's not been spotted and dealt with. On the plus side, it doesn't seem to have spread any further.

Anyway, does anyone know how long the Maserati body warranty lasts. The car will be 8 years old next March and I know BMW amongst others does 12 years. Otherwise I'll have to get it treated elsewhere.

Thanks.

Pretty sure it expired by now, judging by how their customer service is for older cars.
Anyway, even if it was covered, in that area they will argue that a stone chipped away the paint and protective layer and the warranty won't apply.

Yes would imagine it's around 5 or 6 years but worth going and speaking to a dealer as they may do it....

Yes, worth checking with a MD but I think it will be wear & tear in the same way as inside of the arches which can suffer from chipping

Unless it's different with maserati's it's a perforation warranty dependant on regular inspection so little more than those free checkups to generate work for the workshop IMO

My previous coupe had some paint flake off the headlights surround at 7 years old...despite the 6 previous years of Maserati Services they would not help despite it being a pait fault.

HAd the same on a BMW and unless the service book had the body inspection bit stamped they didn't want to know..

I have a small bit going under the usual rear near side tail light. Just keeping my eye on it at the mo and treating with rust remedy twice a year just to contain it. Seems not to have progressed since I have been doing that.

I also apply rust remedy round the arches, door bottoms, boot bottom and bonnet twice a year just as a preventative measure.

Have a look at Bilt Hamber for a variety of different types of rust treatment. They are considered the very best by many.

Likewise I use rust remedy ("Krust", I think) and about every 4 years I get the inside of the arches repainted as by then they are just starting to go at the innermost edge. The under tail light issue was dealt with about 5 years ago and has never returned.

Yep Dave, as above, Krust. It chemically neutralises any chips before they get going.

My taillight issue was done just before I bought it and has most definately returned.

Sorry to hear that it's returned Matt. I guess when you end up doing it, you will make a better job of it and it will be gone for good

I had a golf MK2 with a bit of rust where the hatch meets the glass rubber and had it professionaly fixed at a garage.
After 2 years it was back ...
I don't know if these problems are hard to fix properly or if it's the case that once corroded, it will reapear later.
