Bang on Miles, spoke to Darrell at Dick Lovett on thursday and asked your question Urby, the technology has moved on and they are not the same engines... Hope that helps...

Thanx for that Andrea but was under the impression they were the same engines by and large

But Loz.......nearly all the problems encountered with the 3200 were engine management and ancillaries.......no real mention of the engines giving bother, indeed the 4200, touch wood has been the paragon of virtue in this respect.

I'd still err on side of caution......

Not so Frank. The issues with the 3200 come down to oil I feel. There was alot of issues with endfloat which results in a new engine or at best a complete rebuild, I should know, it happened to me.

I still feel this came from wrong of unchanged oil so Maserati where aware of this and hence the 4200 service intervals. The turbos on the 3200 shred the oil and I would say the oil should be changed every 6k miles.

Must say i thought the engines in the 3200 were pretty much unburstable and it was the sensors and electrics that were unreliable .

Yes that did not help and I agree the turbos where phenomenally reliable but engine rebuilds at under 5 years old is not forgivable.

Agree Matt.

My 3200 needed an air and knock sensor which cost £2600 to put right . warranty thank God.
