Chris, well done and a great leap of faith. I will be interested to hear your summary on how the car js taking the miles.

Initially it seems very well. Interior is perhaps less robust that one might like. Need to work out what is leather and what isn't. Things like the brake pedal rubber has worn through. That's about £10 from Eurospares, but still slightly surprising.

Just been to see an old business mate in Leigh on Sea, and took him around the block.

Really not sure where the idea that its not noisy enough comes from :) An H-pipe seems very sensible, but I suspect anything else will need to be valved!

You can very much feel the weight though. It has a wonderful sense of momentum, and by heck, it shifts :D

Quick? Really compared to the 42?

Yes, but in a different way. Less scalded cat, more something else. I can't really think of a suitable analogy but because it is so much more solid, the speed is somewhat deceptive. Clarkson once described a Bentley (IIRC) that was like being 'picked up in a velvet glove and hurled at the horizon' That's sort of what it's like. You don't really feel like you're going that fast until the scenery starts getting close quite rapidly.

There's only 0.3 secs on the 0-60 time anyway. I doubt *I* could make that difference on a test

Yes but more in the 0-100 time and that is the big factor. Weight is also a big advantage.

Yes, IIRC it's about 200kg (at least according to the spec sheets here) so a couple of passengers

I reckon it must be down to the gearing as the 4.2 is a lot faster than many people think. I was very surprised to see how well Stevo's 4.2 went on the Le Mans trip last year - there really wasn't much in it compared to the lighter coupes.

Not sure. The GT seems a lot longer geared than the 4.2 So much that I've pretty much left it in Sport / Auto so far as when I was driving in manual my 'normal' (per the 4200) gear selections were well below the power band. 80 in 6th seems to be <3k (although I may misremember that)

Chris, it's not that it doesn't sound good already its just that when you unleash the engine noise it sounds EPIC!

One thing I struggled with was the sheer size of it, length and width.

In terms of pace, I agree. It wafts along like a Bentley.

It's a lovely car. For interior trim, D-Class I haven't used but always are well recommended. There's also the thread on this forum where someone had the Tech Cloth on a GS was fully replaced with leather.

Cheers Ross. I followed Miles once. I was really struggling as I was trying to change gear to *his* engine note :)

It is a big old thing, no doubt. Feels much bigger than the 20mm extra width suggests.

I guess it's what you get used to - if mine is not in sport mode, it feels like I can barely hear it! I guess this set up has rendered me deaf - you can all let me know what you think when he hear it at Brooklands

I have heard Adams car and as yours is more or less identical then I know how loud it is. Other than the Strad there is no Maserati out of the box which is "loud" and they all NEED a tweak to make them sound louder and more "purposeful".

I think Dean (Rockits) said to me as we pulled up at Ace last week "Have you ever known another brand of car where so many cars have an exhaust mod?" And the answer was a resounding "NO"!

My 4200 has pretty much straight throughs. Yes, it's louder. But not *that* much louder *in the cabin*.

Curious
